It is a really exciting time to join the Reach family at the Express, as we are now looking for a Sub Editor to join our team.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

This role is home and hub based linked to our Canary Wharf Hub. We are therefore open to candidates based in and around the London area.
What will the role involve?
- Editing copy to fit allocated space, checking facts, ensuring copy is accurate, and written in clear, plain English
- Writing accurate and effective headlines
- Dealing with changes to stories as events unfold
- Updating copy quickly and accurately
- Adhering to house style rules
- Ensuring copy is legally sound and meets IPSO guidelines and company rules and guidelines
Who are we looking for?
- NCTJ or equivalent journalism degree and knowledge of media law
- Well organised and able to work to very tight deadlines
- Use of Apple Mac computers, ContentWatch, InDesign, InCopy, online research, use of Clipshare
- The skill and judgement to choose if copy can be left unchanged or if it needs to be rewritten
- The ability to rewrite copy quickly, accurately and effectively
- The ability to meet the very high standards demanded of a national newspaper in terms of accurate, effective and mistake-free copy
- The ability to write accurate, hard-hitting or entertaining headlines
- This is a position that requires a depth of experience in journalism
- Track record of sub-editing elsewhere in the newspaper/magazine industry
- Desirable experience working as news reporters
- High level of experience, concentration, attention to detail, and accuracy
