Job description
The Sun is the biggest news brand in the UK - and still growing - with a talented, diverse team who publish the best coverage of news, sport, lifestyle and showbiz in print and digital.
Your role: As a Sun sub-editor you will be responsible for editing print copy to fix spelling or grammatical errors. Rewriting material to make it tight, punchy, to length and in house style. You'll also write brilliant headlines.
Day to day:
Checking facts to ensure stories are accurate and legally safe
Consulting with reporter/writer and desk heads to resolve issues with copy, keeping chief subs informed on changes that arise
Suggest new angles
Maintain a wide knowledge of current affairs and trends through reading various titles as well as utilising other media platforms daily
Work mainly for the Scottish Sun but also for the London, Irish and Ulster editions as required.
What we are looking for from you:
We are looking for a talented sub-editor, who is well organised and has the ability to work under pressure.
Experience subbing on either a national or regional daily newspaper
Creative, flexible and calm under pressure with the ability to turn your hand to news and features
A broad knowledge of current affairs and popular culture is essential
Awareness of legal and regulatory requirements
Excellent grasp of the English language
Able to work under pressure to tight and frequent deadlines
Well organised
Adaptability – able to adapt style dependent on the story
