Job description

This post is full time and permanent, working 35 hours per week.

The successful appointee will be supporting the academic delivery of Broadcast Journalism, TV, Moving Image and Digital Media courses/productions within DCDI, School of Arts and School of Media and Communications, through the provision of a high-quality customer-focused technical service to colleagues, students and external clients.

The role requires extensive operational and technical knowledge of broadcast video production studios/control systems and audio/video over IP networks, social media and live web streaming, podcasting and integration of mobile device content. This requires operational knowledge of professional cameras, sound, video, lighting, hardware, software and digital studio infrastructure. The technician will work closely with our equipment stores during preparation and turn-around of equipment for productions and workshops and will be required to support the stores team as required.

The role will support and supervise production studios and multimedia newsroom operations, instructing students across a broad range of courses and providing technical production guidance.

Experience of integrating traditional video systems with digital/social media/computer platforms and streaming is required and to have the skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues when necessary.

They must be compliant with current HSE and University health and safety legislation and regulations, with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper measures are taken to protect the safety of students, colleagues and visitors.

You will be able to work both under direction and independently; have experience of working within interdisciplinary media production teams; be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of colleagues and students; and possess current skills in media production relevant to the role, with established and developing skills in online media.
