Job description
Who are we?
Abel & Cole has pioneered organic, ethical and sustainable food delivery for over 30 years. Doing things better is our bread and butter; from saving over 60 million plastic bags by using reusable boxes for our food deliveries, to finding alternatives to plastic long before it hit the headlines. We are forever challenging ourselves to find the most positive way to do business and want everyone to eat organic because it’s one way to save the future. It’s these values that enabled us to become B Corp certified; an optional audit we’ve gone through to recognise how we put people and planet before profit, as well as help us find room for further improvement.
We’re looking for more people to join our team of almost 600, to share our passion for doing the right thing even bigger and better than we do already. In a fast paced and competitive market, we know it’s our people who make the difference. We’ve learnt how important it is to recognise, develop and promote from within; and that trusting people lets them come up with the best ideas and that helps our entrepreneurial spirit to thrive.

Role Summary:
We’re looking for a hard-working, super-efficient and passionate person to join our Studio creatives at Abel & Cole. This role will be a part of the Content & Creative Team, within the Marketing department. You will assist the Photographer and Videographer by making sure the Studio runs smoothly and photoshoots are well managed, following guidance from the Project & Studio Manager.
The ideal candidate will be more flexible than a rubber spatula because every week in the studio will be different. From hunting down the last bunch of chervil in London to finding the perfect fork for a barbecue shot on a rainy day in February, you should be ready to tackle jobs that range from the creative, the mundane, the last minute and the long range. A multi-tasker who is ready to take the initiative, and who’s not afraid to get their hands dirty (especially when it comes to the washing up), you’ll be able to collaborate not just with your Studio Team colleagues, but with departments across Abel & Cole.
You will need to work closely with the Photographer and Videographer, who will rely on you to provide key practical support during photoshoots. You’ll work with the Project & Studio Manager to help manage the Studio’s workload and with our Recipe Writer on regular photoshoots. The Studio work closely with several departments across Abel & Cole, particularly Buying and Trading, so being a good communicator is key.
This role would suit an aspiring photographer with some photography experience, as you will be mentored by both our Photographer and Videographer on the job, with opportunities to develop your creative skills.
We provide a fun, and collaborative working environment – this is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a dynamic team who are at the heart of Abel & Cole’s business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing products and ingredients in studio, including ordering ingredients for photoshoots as per briefs, and shopping for missing/hard to get hold of ingredients, as needed. Keeping the studio stocked with basics, such as olive oil, salt, pepper, sugar and flour and ensuring we are not doubling up on ingredients to manage costs.
- Owning the packshot process from tracking launches of new products, communicating with trading and buying on the arrival of samples, to photographing and cropping them ready for launch.
- Saving photos and keeping the photo library organised and clearly labelled.
- Helping to keep the studio clean and tidy, which will include helping with washing up at photoshoots, assisting the Photographer and Videographer with cleaning the studio down at the end of the day, managing the rubbish and recycling, ensuring packaging doesn’t build up in the Studio, regularly cleaning the fridges and defrosting the freezers, organising the laundry delivery service, ensuring we are well stocked with clean tea towels, cleaning cloths and cleaning materials.
- Prop management, including sourcing props as per briefs, ensuring our prop cupboard is well maintained and easy to use, and assisting the studio creatives with finding the right props to bring their vision to life.
- Assisting with photo- and video shoots, from basic food prep and cooking to helping create sets, set up lights, or record sound for videos.
- Assisting with photo- and video shoots on supplier visits, which can be long days or overnight stays.
- Act as an ambassador for our B Corp values: make all decisions with our social and environmental impact in mind and look for opportunities, no matter how small, to use our business as a force for good.
Essential
- Highly motivated and well-organised.
- A consummate collaborator who also has the confidence to work independently and take the initiative.
- Team player, happy to muck in as a part of a bustling, fast-paced team.

- Great visual eye and enthusiasm for creative work.
