Abbott is a global health care company, focused on making patients’ lives better for over 135 years. Abbott is present in 160+ countries worldwide, employs 113,000+ employees, and is made up of 4 business areas: Medical Devices, Nutrition, Diagnostics and Pharmaceuticals.

Abbott Diabetes Care (ADC) is part of the Medical Devices division. ADC designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge blood glucose monitoring technology for use in both home and hospital settings, including our revolutionary Freestyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System. Here at Witney, we design, develop and manufacture test strips and biosensors which are used by patients and healthcare professionals for the day-to-day management of diabetes.

ADC have an exciting opportunity for a Student Technologist (Manufacturing Scientist) to join our Technical Services team for an approximate 13-month internship at our Centre of Excellence Manufacturing Site in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Day to day activities are very varied, and this role will suit someone who has good time management skills and enjoys both teamwork and working individually. Typical activities include analysing and interpreting manufacturing data, investigating process variables and their impact to product performance, and discussing findings with the team and key stakeholders. This is a great opportunity for an analytical thinker that likes to work through challenges in a logical manner using facts and data to support their findings to work side by side with the manufacturing process and get a real insight into a medical device company. This assignment is office based at our Centre of Excellence Manufacturing Site in Witney, Oxfordshire.

Previously successful candidates have been proactive, well organised individuals studying for a degree in biomedical science, bio-medical engineering or similar, with an interest in diabetes, materials science, real-life data analysis and continuous improvement. This role would suit a person with good communication and presentation skills; and who enjoys working on a variety of different projects simultaneously both independently and as part of a team.

At Witney site, we also support our employees to live life to the fullest – whether it’s joining our couch to 5k team, tending the allotments, utilising our Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) or dropping in for a yoga session, there is plenty going for you to engage with as and when you wish!

To apply, please submit your CV and cover letter. By submitting your application, you consent for your details to be shared with Randstad, our Third Party Labour supplier, who are working on behalf of Abbott on this position. This is a 13-month placement starting late June 2023.
