Role Summary
The Student Finance Team sits within the Student Services department, alongside teams focused on the provision of pastoral support relating to student needs and welfare, the student experience, and academic study skills.
Members of the Student Support Finance Team work closely with the Student Support Teams and also the Finance Department in order to provide a high level of student-facing support specifically focused on the financial requirements and expectations of studying online across an expanding portfolio of programmes.
The principal focus of a Student Finance Adviser is to provide focused advice and guidance to students and staff around financial matters and processes, ensuring the provision of a high-quality service and professional advice, guidance and support to positively influence student progression, engagement and retention.
Key Responsibilities
Provide advice and guidance directly to students regarding general financial queries relating to their studies.- Provide advice and guidance to students and staff on key policies and procedures surrounding student finance/tuition fees.
- Provide advice and guidance to students on how their finances may impact their study progression and speed.
- Work in collaboration with the Finance Department to resolve student queries.
- Provide tailored and sensitive advice and guidance in relation to a student’s individual student finance record.
- Support newly enrolled students with the application and completion of finance obligations, for example loan applications
- Support the Disability Team in advising students on how to apply for DSA funding and offer guidance where needed.
- Identify students suffering from financial issues and work with the Student Support Team to ensure that they receive the appropriate support and advice needed.
- Assist the Student Finance Manager with the development of accessible materials to support students.
Person Specification and Key Competencies
An Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification- Excellent numeracy skills
- Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills
- Evidence of the ability to manage a busy workload to tight deadlines
- Excellent organisation and attention to detail
- Evidence of initiative and problem-solving skills
- Excellent IT skills with a desire to embrace new technology
- A professional manner and an ability to handle sensitive information
- A desire to work in a highly collaborative environment
- A willingness to understand and adapt to new challenges
- Knowledge or understanding of the student loan funding system in the UK

Working Arrangements
The vast majority of this role will be based remotely, and you will be working from your own home. However, you would be required to attend our office in Leeds (LS1 5HN) once per month. Please note travel expenses to the office will not be reimbursed. These monthly visits are to encourage staff to utilise the office space for key meetings, training sessions, team building, project work and maintain the positive, creative and innovative culture at Kaplan Open Learning.
Your monthly visits to the office would be flexible and arranged in advance with support from your line manager. You would not be restricted to certain days/dates within the month. However, we'd always try to arrange visits in advance so you and your team can meet face to face.
Further Information
Starting Salary: £23,500
