About us

UCL currently has approximately 50,000 students across 11 faculties and 80 academic departments and receives c. 160,000 applications each year. The data is held in a SITS student information system (branded as Portico within UCL). The Student Data team sits within the Academic Services Department of Student and Registry Services (SRS). The purpose of the team is to develop, implement and maintain high quality reporting on the data relating to the applicants and students of UCL and, in doing so, contribute to UCL’s statutory reporting requirements and internal data needs.

About the role

The Student Data Analyst will be responsible for the timely preparation of statutory returns and associated statistical reports relating to students that underpin the external funding of the institution. The statutory returns will include, but not be limited to, HESA Returns (Student Data Futures, Aggregate Offshore, ITT) and OfS Returns (HESES, Individual Learner Record and DfE teacher training reports). The postholder will also be responsible for the preparation of internal management data relating to students and applicants, to support student numbers, planning, monitoring, funding cycles and other institutional requirements. A key part of the role will be to engage with stakeholders in professional services, academic departments and faculties to identify opportunities and specify requirements for continuous improvement and to advise on data matters. If you have any queries about the role, please contact Gary Smith at: [email protected]

About you

The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the statutory reporting requirements of HE institutions in relation to student data and experience of key student processes that underpin the student lifecycle within an HE setting. They will have significant experience of interrogating large, complex information systems for the purposes of identifying integrity issues and maintaining data quality standards, together with experience of developing efficient data processes to identify errors and extract meaning from data. You must have excellent organisation skills, including the ability to prioritise work, think clearly and work calmly to meet deadlines under pressure. You must also possess excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to be tactful and diplomatic in both your written and verbal communications with all stakeholders. The ability to use your initiative to identify and resolve problems and provide advice is another key requirement of the role.
