The Office of Graduate Studies (OGS) in Arts & Sciences seeks a collaborative and forward-thinking individual who is eager to support Arts & Sciences graduate students at Washington University in St. Louis through leading and developing initiatives and implementing programs that enrich the student experience. The new coordinator will concentrate their efforts initially in support of specifically Mentoring and Development; a healthy Learning Environment; and International Student support. The role requires the ability to think creatively and boldly about the role of mentoring for graduate students, peers and faculty, and how to enact change across many disciplines. The coordinator will serve as resource and advocate for individual students, particularly international students, student group leaders, and department leaders and administration. The coordinator will collaborate closely with the OGS Director of Student Affairs, the Graduate Student Engagement Coordinator, and the Director of Academic Initiatives and Special Projects, as well as other university partners to support student success in these all programs. The new Student Affairs Coordinator will be part of a collaborative OGS team. They will work on strategic initiatives and program development in regards to the student experience, with a holistic focus on graduate students’ success, well-being, equity & justice. Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Cultivate transdisciplinary mentoring opportunities for Arts & Sciences graduate students, across all A&S departments, working closely with department colleagues, the Office of Graduate Studies Student Affairs team, and other university partners such as the The Graduate Center and university Student Affairs. This includes developing training opportunities with on-campus and industry partners as well as advocating for students in different placement pathways.
- Serve as the OGS international student support liaison that cultivates concerted efforts to understand international graduate student experiences, and properly tailor support efforts those experiences. Will need to work closely with the Office of International Scholars and Students (OISS) as well as university Student Affairs representatives.
- Serve as collaborator and support for OGS efforts in assessing and improving the graduate student learning environment, with a specific focus on culture and climate. Will work directly with the Director of Graduate Student Affairs, and campus leadership.
- Meet regularly with students, student representatives, and campus partners, to understand needs in the aforementioned assignments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree, with knowledge of the fields of higher education, student affairs, international student support.
- Three to five years’ experience working in higher education, preferred in areas of student affairs, student support & development, graduate program coordination, or comparable industry experience.
- Preferred experience with Graduate/Professional students.
- Previous experience collaborating and working with university partners.
- Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion; International student support; and building positive relationships among students.
- Demonstrated experience as a collaborator across a variety of units and project types, in particular with faculty, staff, and administrators on projects that innovate in graduate education.
- Significant knowledge of liberal arts curricula and the ability to interact with various campus partners and external stakeholders.
- Must have a strong understanding of the graduate student experience, and the role of co-curricular programming and support in their ultimate success.
- Knowledge of trends in graduate education and their relationship to institutional needs.
- Ability to develop assessment metrics for mentoring and support initiatives.
- Must have professional interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with a commitment to serving students and faculty.
- Ability to deal discretely with confidential matters.
- Must have ability to function in a team atmosphere and prioritize multiple assignments with frequent interruptions.
- Ability to work independently and actively solve problems.
- Ability to project manage and take ownership in development and delivery.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make independent decisions.
- Ability to learn quickly and adjust to changing priorities and workflow.
- Strong computer skills with advanced knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as basic graphic design / photo editing platforms.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related field and three years related professional experience or equivalent education and experience to equal seven years.

G10Salary Range
Base pay is commensurate with experience.The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.Accommodation
