About the school or department
The Psychological Sciences Community is part of the School of Natural, Social, and Sports Sciences. In the Community we have four undergraduate courses: Psychology, Criminology and Psychology, Forensic Psychology and, Health and Clinical Psychology. We also have three postgraduate courses: Health Psychology, Forensic psychology and a psychology Conversion course.
We boast a large portfolio of research expertise and links with local charities, trusts and other organisations.
About the role
A graduate teaching assistant role is an exciting opportunity for anyone interested in a research and teaching career to gain experience in both these areas simultaneously. You would spend half your time in a teaching role, and the other half in a Postgraduate research role. This is a full-time post, with 0.5 FTE paid for by the GTA role, and 0.5 FTE being a research degree opportunity with fees covered by us (International applicants will be considered but they will need to cover the difference between home and international fees).
Your role in teaching will be to support lecturers to deliver sessions, support students during practical sessions and workshops, and eventually help create and deliver sessions. We have an extremely successful GTA programme, with our first two cohorts gaining lecturing posts or further research positions immediately. We pride ourselves in coaching new, less experienced, aspiring academics to develop their skills, confidence and portfolio to ensure you can create, deliver and grow in your teaching career.
In terms of research, we have a diverse portfolio of research projects which you can lead as part of a postgraduate degree in research in (typically MSc; see attached). We would like applicants to indicate the project(s) of preference and include a section in their application form outlining their interest and experience in that project area. We will also allow applicants to bring their own projects, but their application should also contain a project proposal similar to those attached.
We have a range of technology, expertise and facilities which will be available for the post holder to use for research, training and support teaching in, including EEG, VR, eye tracking, and more.
