For the past 85 years, Kawartha Dairy has been proud to be a 100% Canadian-owned company, still operated by the same family that founded it in 1937. Although the company has grown tremendously from its early days, it still remains headquartered in the lakeside community of Bobcaygeon, Ontario, near Peterborough, an hour north of the GTA. We still use fresh milk and cream, delivered daily from local farms to make our premium, rich and creamy ice cream and dairy products.

The paid Student Development Program is a highly selective, high potential program for rising post-secondary students. An opportunity focussed on helping students gain valuable work experience and insight into the Dairy industry in Bobcaygeon.


Students will directly contribute to the Kawartha Dairy’s success while receiving an unmatched, behind-the-scenes learning experience. Work within the IT department and gain exposure to the business of Dairy Manufacturing through challenging, hands-on projects and networking opportunities. In addition, students are given opportunities of mentorship from our Leadership Team Members.

What You’ll Do:

  • A balance of project based work and daily execution
  • Support all aspects of the IT team, which include optimizing our existing network architecture and user resources to ensure our network operates efficiently and securely
  • Using a ‘Zero Trust’ model as a template, will assist with reviewing current infrastructure operations and identifying and implementing security improvements designed to enhance our everyday environment in a staged format.

Examples of projects may include:

  • Mapping and documenting all network connections in a hybrid environment.
  • Creation of VLANs to segment and protect the network infrastructure and traffic.
  • Review existing infrastructure warranty and upgrade opportunities.
  • Assist with security functions, including promoting security training and updates.
  • Audit and document Domain security through Active Directory administration tools
  • Design appropriate security policies and related user documentation
  • Deploy and train users in new security tools, including password managers and biometric access

What You Need:

  • Be enrolled in a Co-Op program
  • Legally permitted to work in Canada
  • Able to work directly in beautiful Bobcaygeon, Ontario
  • Available for start of program September 2023
