Job description
We are working for Bradford Metropolitan District Council to upgrade street lighting and help Bradford to develop as a smart city. We will provide services to survey the 56,500 street lighting assets, provide design for 53,700 units and replace 48,300 existing street lights with energy efficient LED luminaires. As part of the overall scope there will also be approximately 17,000 lighting column replacements and 7500 concrete lighting columns fitted with steel sleeves.
In this role you will form an important part of the Street Lighting team by supporting with the installation of new street lighting columns across the Bradford district. You will excavate for new lighting columns, assist with installation of the columns using Hiab vehicle, remove old lighting columns, relocate attached signs and reinstate footways.
What will this role involve?
- Maintain high technical standards
- Attend project and work briefings as required
- Drive/operate vehicles/plant requiring general and specialist skills including vehicle checks, routine maintenance (e.g. oil and water checks) and cleaning
- Undertake all aspects of street lighting column installation works including excavation and reinstatement
- Take responsibility for the safety of yourself and others within your team to ensure compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and safe operation to protect members of the public.
- Carry out vehicle checks prior to shift starting, correctly filling in defect books
- Record Drivers' hours. Allocation and capturing time and resource utilisation in line with operated allocation system
- To keep records and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Assessment, deployment and removal of suitable pedestrian and traffic management.
What are we looking for?
- Full driving licence, Class C HGV with CPC or IPAF 1B for MEWP
- Must have experience with limited access excavation / groundworks within the public realm & highways
- Have experience with backfilling / reinstatement within the public realm & highways
- Ideally be CAT and Genny trained
- Familiar with the use and application of permits to dig
- Experienced working outdoors in challenging weather conditions
- Knowledge of setting up localised Traffic Management & exclusion zones around areas of work
