JOB TITLE: Manager, Group Strategy – Competitor Analysis
SALARY: £82,539 - £91,710
LOCATION: London
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week (Tuesday and Wednesday) at our 25 Gresham Street office in London.

We have an exciting and rare opportunity to join the Competitor Analysis team within Group Strategy.

The Competitor Analysis team shapes strategic thinking by identifying, monitoring, and evaluating trends in the Group’s external environment. This includes detailed financial and strategic analysis of peers for GEC/Board, exploration of emerging strategic trends, and collaborative projects with teams across the Group. Competitor Analysis also work closely with the other teams within the wider Group Strategy, Corporate Development, Fintech Investment and Investor Relations team.
As part of a small team, you will be a key contributor to all of the team’s outputs, leading projects and building areas of expertise. This is a great role to accelerate your development, gaining highly sought after skills and exposure to the thinking of senior management.
What you’ll be doing:
Becoming an expert on the Group’s external environment
- Advising on competitor developments: Offering insight and opinion to senior leadership on developments across the competitor landscape, from traditional peers to emerging challengers. This includes a variety of activities during quarterly financial reporting periods and coverage of market updates (e.g., investor days)
- Strategic problem solving: Undertaking a number of projects where a view of the external market and competitive environment enhances Group decision making (e.g., returns benchmarking, valuation deep-dives).
- Wider team interaction: Regular interaction and collaboration to share ideas and insights, as well as providing specialist knowledge to support wider team results (e.g. supporting Investor Relations with input into LBG quarterly reporting process)
- Knowledge sharing: Improving Group knowledge on the external environment through active collaboration and regular presentations.

What you’ll need:
Essential skills:
- Strong analytical and technical capabilities, working at speed to critically analyse peer results
- Comfort with bank financial accounts and financial modelling
- An interest in the external environment which the Group operates in
- Organisational skills, demonstrating ability to manage multiple workstreams at the same time on an individual basis, as well as planning team deliverables
- Curious and enthusiastic mindset – you are not expected to be an expert (or even close to one) when you join, but the role suits someone who is keen to learn and ask questions to develop as quickly as possible
Desirable skills:
- Ability to communicating complex issues in a concise manner, both verbally and in writing
- Stakeholder management at all levels
