The position
This high-profile role will be critical in helping develop and shape the global strategy of RES Group, developing evidence-based arguments and translating these into a high quality and concise dialogue.
This position will work with RES’s senior leaders across the global business to provide insight, market intelligence, and understanding on the evolution of their markets.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate a sound ability to understand and breakdown problems, to identify potential solutions, to develop a clear plan to implement solutions, and to present these in a clear and concise manner to senior leaders.
Organisational Context
The Strategy and Sustainability Team reports to the CFO and resides within RES’s Group Services function. The Team provides services across all RES’s active countries, all technologies, and all activities. The successful candidate will work alongside the Head of Strategy and Sustainability within a small team and closely interact with senior management and other functions and businesses, both internal and external to RES.
Key Accountabilities
- Shape the strategic agenda and develop compelling arguments, translating these into a high-quality dialogue with the business and presentations for a Senior Executive audience
- Provide leadership with an independent, integrated perspective of the internal and external marketplace of topics or projects you are responsible for, facilitating informed challenge and discussions
- Ensure competitive strategy is at the heart of RES by implementing world-class standards for rigorous planning and sound decision-making
- Support the business planning process, supporting our business leaders in creating ways for RES to succeed in the markets we operate in over the long term
- Monitor and track global news-flow around RES’s markets and competitors, drawing insights from trends, to ensure senior executives are informed of emerging opportunities and threats and those individuals that interact with our key customers have the information they need to deepen relationships.
- Provide insights for RES’s procurement team as they build long-term relationships with suppliers to ensure RES continues to have access to the latest technologies at the lowest cost to deliver the most value to our projects
- Ensure business cases for new business streams are consistent, accurate, and decisions on investment are made on the best information via a co-ordinated set of metrics, assumptions, and outputs
- Use exceptional business and communication skills to translate vision into action

- Electricity market functionality and drivers in any of RES’s markets

REQUIRED SKILLS
- Strategic analysis
- Research and analysis skills
- Ability to present in writing and verbally at board-level events
- Ability to communicate complex issues to non-specialists
- Excel skills for financial modelling & forecasting
- Collaborator with the intellectual rigor and attention to detail
- Self-motivation and drive
PREFERRED SKILLS
- A second language would be useful (French, German, Turkish, Swedish)
Experience
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Experience of undertaking strategy analysis for or within companies, ideally as part of a strategy consulting business
- Experience of developing business plans
- Demonstrated ability to take the initiative and think creatively
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects to tight timescales
- Ability to grasp detail and to balance this with an understanding of the bigger picture
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Strategy and / or consulting background, ideally within the context of energy markets
MINIMAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree from a well-recognized university
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree is preferred but not essential
