Job description
Full time role although part time hours would be considered for the right candidate.
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated individual to join BCP Council’s Strategic Waste team, who will take a lead in shaping and implementing our waste strategy, related policies and service objectives to comply with the Government’s national waste agenda and the Council’s own carbon reduction ambitions.
As a place, BCP Council is the tenth-largest urban local authority in England with 397,000 residents and 15 million visitors each year to our globally recognised coastline and vibrant towns. As a result, BCP Council manages 200,000 tonnes of waste each year.
Your role as a Strategic Waste Officer will require flexibility, leadership, innovation and expertise in strategic waste. Working with senior officers you will take responsibility for the delivery of strategy and policy development, along with supporting service changes from conception to completion. The successful applicants will also take responsibility for the delivery of recycling and reuse initiatives and support operational delivery of household waste recycling centres, waste transfer stations and commercial waste services.
An essential part of your job will be to build strong relationships with external partners and internal colleagues and be able to lead meetings at a senior level, so you must be an excellent and confident communicator, ensuring others trust your professional judgement and advice.
You will play an active role in a multi-skilled and motivated team, and there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your skills, progress your career and contribute to the direction of the service as a whole, whilst helping to develop others.
The role offers a mixture of homeworking and utilising offices at our waste sites or Council buildings.
Whatever stage of your career we welcome your application.
