About the job

Google's infrastructure needs go far beyond server computers. As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future - everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.

As a Strategic Negotiator, you will manage cost-effective, scalable, sustainable solutions to support Google's continued growth. You will be responsible for all commercial operations with existing third-party data center suppliers. You'll work with the site acquisition team to establish contacts and build relationships, and be the main escalation point and single point of contact for the assigned suppliers, taking responsibility for the on-going long-term commercial liaison with them. You'll proactively monitor operational, commercial, and business agreement matters and suppliers' adherence to them. Your negotiations and oversight will contribute to optimizing operating costs, enabling our future growth, avoiding critical service failures, and will impact every part of the business.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the ongoing commercial operations and growth at existing third-party data center sites. Develop metrics for mapping, tracking, and supporting a broad range of portfolio management issues.
  • Develop and foster connections with suppliers of data center capacity at the executive level, and be the main escalation point of contract for operational, commercial, and business agreement matters.
  • Coordinate internal cross-functional projects related to the existing fleet of data centers and suppliers (e.g., operations, energy, community engagement, sustainability).
  • Maintain in-depth market knowledge of the EMEA region including policy related issues, capacity alternatives, and potential issues impacting on-going data center operations.
  • Monitor operational, commercial, and business agreement obligations in very close cooperation with internal stakeholders.
Google is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace and is an affirmative action employer. We are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity or Veteran status. We also consider qualified applicants regardless of criminal histories, consistent with legal requirements. See also Google's EEO Policy and EEO is the Law.
