OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The purpose of this role is to proactively manage the kitting and stores processes within all three of the Operations departments – Workshop, A&T and SMT; as well as to assist with the inventory management within the Owen Instrumentation Houston office.
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are essential, as the Material Controller will have full responsibility for ensuring that internal and external audits are passed with regards to inventory accuracy and management.
The materials controller must have the ability to ensure that procurement, order progressing and kitting are all adhered to in terms of delivery dates set and to take prompt remedial action as required.
The Material Controller’s role is predominantly a self-managed position, ensuring work load is prioritised according to priorities set by the three Operational Department Heads and/or the General Manager.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Take ownership of all Stores, including the systems and procedures used within the stores function.
2. Ensure that material levels are monitored and are accurate at all times.
3. Liaising with the Operations and Production managers to ensure material is available and promptly kitted in accordance with the set priorities.
4. Liaise with the Purchasing Manager to ensure POs are raised for parts sent out for external processing and minimum reorder points are actioned.
5. Ensure that all tool kit boxes are correctly labelled and the contents are accurate at all times, and contain all appropriate documentation required by A&T.
6. Take ownership for providing dispatch dates for Client spares orders, and ensuring these dates are adhered to by liaising with the Workshop, A&T, Logistics and Purchasing and that a minimum OTD of 90% is maintained every month.
7. Take ownership for maintaining spares stock in the Houston office to the agreed levels by liaising with the Workshop, A&T, Logistics and Purchasing.
8. Take ownership for the six-monthly internal stock checks within all stores and tool kits.
9. Ensure that all Stores areas are kept clean and tidy at all times.
10. Log all arriving items into stores in a timely manner ensuring accuracy of recording. Notify relevant personnel of parts that require further processing immediately.
11. Ensure that all company and statutory health and safety policies, rules and regulations are understood, applied and implemented by you.
QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE & QUALITIES REQUIRED
1. Demonstrable experience in a similar role.
2. Excellent MS Office Skills are essential.
3. In-depth knowledge of the Oracle ERP system would be a distinct advantage for this position, but full training will be provided.
4. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
5. Ability to thrive under pressure in a fast moving environment with ever changing priorities.
6. Forklift license desirable or willing to train to achieve a license.
