We have an exciting new opportunity for a Charity Shop Assistant Manager to join the team at Valence School, Westerham. The ‘Friends of Valence School' have secured the lease of a shop in Westerham and this is a significant moment in the school’s history that will provide a range of opportunities to celebrate success, raise the profile and enhance the work of the school. Valence School is extremely excited about this new development which will place the school at the heart of the local community and is an exciting time for us as we launch our very first Charity Shop, which will not only raise vital funds, but will provide our students with valuable work experience in our local community.
You will support the manager in the business operations of the shop and have high standards with a strong drive to achieve results as a team you will be pivotal to its success. You will be commercially aware, creative and constantly looking for new opportunities to attract customers and source stock. You will motivate a team of volunteers whilst creating a safe and dynamic work environment. This role is unique, varied and demanding, and one in which you will make a real difference and have the opportunity to work with some amazing people.
The Valence Shop will operate a volunteer model, in which volunteers will support the tasks within the shop, including sorting stock and serving customers. You will be experienced in retail, an excellent communicator who really enjoys working with others and is confident at delegating to a team. Although this position is based in the charity shop in Westerham High Street, you will have strong links with, and be employed by, the School.
Valence School in Westerham is a KCC Residential and Day Special School for students aged 4-19 years with physical disabilities, complex medical needs and associated learning and communication difficulties. We are part of the Kent Special Educational Needs Trust (KsENT). ‘Friends of Valence School’ is the school’s own charity, raising funds to enhance our students’ opportunities and educational lives.
Overlooking Westerham Green, the shop is centrally located next to Vicarage Hill car park with access from both the front and rear. Work has already been agreed to provide fully accessible entrances and a large care suite with hoist which will enable students to visit the shop for either work experience, learning activities or increased social opportunities. Over the coming months we will be setting up all aspects of the shop ready for opening it's door to the public in September.
The shop will sell 'new' and 'nearly new' items that have been donated to the school, together with items produced by the students as part of their school curriculum. Local artists/crafters will also be able to rent display space. Activity workshops and other community events will be planned on a regular basis and tea, coffee and other refreshments will be on sale whilst the shop is open.
