General Retail Manager
We’re currently looking for two full time General Retail Managers to join our welcoming and close-knit team within our Foodhalls division – managing the Fresh and Ambient operations respectively. The role of General Retail Manager is multidimensional at Harrods, and requires a global mindset to ensure exceptional standards and performance across retail as a whole (this includes our concession partners).
As highly skilled operational leaders, the General Retail Managers will set, drive and deliver the vision and priorities for the division. Always with an eye on the results of today, the General Retail Managers are also anticipating the trends of tomorrow and influencing key stakeholders as a result. The General Retail Managers will be guardians of bringing the heritage of food and beverage to life every day.

About the Role
The General Retail Managers will be visible with purposeful leadership, creating a truly high performing team. They lead the people management, development and performance of the Food Department Managers, who will (in turn) lead the Team Managers – ensuring that the leadership team has clear accountability for Food Safety, standard operational procedures and customer disciplines across multiple locations and food propositions.
Partnering with multiple stakeholders across the business, the General Retail Managers must deliver exceptional standards, identify opportunities and deliver initiatives to capitalise on business opportunities and develop strategies to address underperforming departments – as well as creating impact and footfall.
Commerciality is a key part of the role. General Retail Managers are accountable for monitoring their areas of responsibility against financial objectives and taking corrective action where necessary. They are responsible for pushing the bar and challenging the status quo in all areas of responsibility.

You will also:
  • Be emotionally intelligent and self-aware. You have a good understanding of your own personal style, skills and preferences (knowing what to dial up or down to suit each situation)
  • Be genuinely passionate about nurturing and developing colleagues, and being skilled at performance coaching.
  • Have proven experience of influencing and persuading key stakeholders into action, working effectively in a matrix model to achieve results.

  • Have a resilient and tenacious mindset, being genuinely open to development feedback.
  • You’ll continually adapt your style to get the best outcomes for your people, customers and the business.
