Principle Purpose of the role
The Stage Technician assists in delivery of The Customs House technical stage services, supporting operational IT systems, plant equipment, Building Management Systems and other operational areas. The Customs House aspires to the highest quality in its production values and in the delivery of technical and operational services and the Stage Technician has a key role in achieving quality and maintaining standards.
Duties
· To assist the Technical Manager and Deputy Technical Manager;
· To provide technical support for performances and events both in the theatre and externally liaising and facilitating other staff, visiting artists, agents, private hirers for technical requirements for all events at The Customs House as required;
· To maintain and operate the house systems for both lighting and sound as required and supervise visiting crew when supplied;
· To ensure excellent overall presentation of events to enhance audience experience, including wheelchair seat removal and replacement, company announcements, sound levels, adequate lighting and hearing loop levels;
· To set up and install audio/visual equipment for relaying and recording events as required;
· To support the Deputy Technical Manager and Technical Manager to inspect, clean, repair and maintain operations and technical equipment and work areas as required within health and safety guidelines;
· To ensure that appropriate security measures are maintained to prevent equipment losses;
· To maintain records and report where necessary to the Deputy Technician Manager and Technical Manager in line with organisational procedures;
· To support the Deputy Technical Manager to maintain, buy or hire equipment for the artistic programme according to the scheduling, budget and technical needs of the organisation;
· To support the Deputy Technicial Manager and Technical Manager to promote good working practices and maintain high production values at all times with the Technical department;
· To undertake basic maintenance duties as required, to ensure the workplace adheres to health and safety as required by H&S policy and legislation;
· To be familiar with, and comply with, current Health and Safety regulations relevant to the industry and to keep abreast of any updates as laid down in H&S procedures and policy;
· To understand and adhere to all Customs House policies, procedures and regulations;
· To undertake other tasks as reasonably requested by the Deputy Technical Manager, Technical Manager, Operations Director or Executive Director.
Essential Specific knowledge and experience
· One year’s experience of working within the theatre industry, ideally in a technical department of regional theatre
· Working knowledge of Rigging and Inspection
· Working knowledge of lighting and sound systems
· A high level of experience using ETC ION Lighting Console
· A high level of experience using Midas M32 Audio Console
· Knowledge of theatre technical systems
· Experience of IT packages (minimum Word and Excel)
· Experienced use of digital projection, Black Magic Live Streaming & QLAB
· Knowledge and operation of hemp flying
· Knowledge of health and safety regulations
Skills and abilities
· Excellent organisational skills
· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
· Ability to operate stage technical equipment
· Ability to monitor health and safety issues and risk assessments
· Can remain calm whilst working under pressure
· Relevant updated knowledge / skills related to the industry
· Theatre qualification in lighting and sound is desired
· Experience of mechanical and electrical plant equipment
