The operating hours for this service will be 9am to 9.30pm which equates to an 11.5 hour shift with an hour unpaid break, seven days a week.
There is a Band 7 Senior Sister/Charge Nurse to oversee the management of this team and provide clinical expertise for children being cared for in an ECC.
The purpose of the PEN team is to:
- see as many children as possible in the ECC to deliver a high quality standard of care to them and their families
- work closely with all relevant professionals to ensure there is a collaborative approach to providing care and addressing safeguarding matters
- to promote safe and effective care to children 24/7
- to ensure timely discharge or transfer to an assessment/inpatient bed
- to educate their colleagues in the care of a child in an ECC and develop the competencies of all ECC nurses
- be a good role model
- ensure positive patient experiences.
Our Paediatric Emergency Nursing (PEN) team is continuing to grow, and is now looking for further Band 5 Paediatric Nurses, to work with us in caring for children within our emergency departments at Scunthorpe and Grimsby hospitals.
The successful applicant will be working closely and alongside the existing team of Paediatric Nurses in the Paediatric Assessment and Observation Unit (PAOU), nursing staff and medical staff in ECC, along with other specialities.
We are working in a 'flying squad' model acting as an advocate for children in ECC who are acutely unwell, and their parents/carers, in being a role model for all staff, showing respect for colleagues, acting with kindness at all times and having the courage to challenge practice that does not meet the needs of children.
Experience working with children in an ECC and/or Paediatric Assessment Unit would be an advantage, training will be given for skills required for minor injuries as described in the job description.
This position will be based at either Scunthorpe General Hospital or Grimsby Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, within our cross-site service. You will be responsible to a Band 7 Sister working across both sites.
Working hours are currently 09:00-21:30 day shifts. This may be subject to change as our service continues to evolve and grow.
