Role summary
London Marathon Events are recruiting two sport and exercise medicine doctors to join an expert interdisciplinary medical team providing medical care to the elite able-bodied and paralympic participants of the TCS London Marathon 2023. You will be based at the team hotel during the week before the event, along the course and at the finish on Marathon Day (Sunday 23 April 2023), and at the hotel after the event.
Key Responsibilities:
- To provide medical care to elite able-bodied and para-athletes before, during, and after the event
- To maintain detailed records for all clinical activities in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- To adhere to the GMC Good Medical Practice and the FSEM Professional Code at all times and maintain all legal and professional qualifications in relation to your role
- To work and communicate effectively with the TCS London Marathon medical team, including the medical, physiotherapy, and first aid leads, and the elite team managers
- To provide immediate lifesaving interventions and facilitate transportation to definitive medical care when required.
- To commence treatment and provide guidance or onward referral to medical specialties for care after the event at a location appropriate for the patient and their clinical condition
- To provide a medical plan to help participants return to the race if it is safe and appropriate to do so
- To counsel athletes towards withdrawal from the event when it is in the interests of their own health and wellbeing.
- To maintain professional conduct at all times
- To undertake any additional duties as may be reasonably expected of the role
- To maintain compliance with relevant health and safety procedures
- To help foster a positive team culture and ethos by maintaining excellent communication
Skills Essential
- Excellent clinical reasoning skills
- Excellent range of clinical skills in primary care, emergency and musculoskeletal medicine
- Excellence in the understanding and delivery of Sport and Exercise medicine in an elite sport setting
- Excellent teamworking skills
- Excellent communication skills that are clear, engaging and responsive.
- Ability to work in and quickly adapt to the requirements of the competitive environment
- Set and maintain high standards of work performance
- Deliver high quality consistent and efficient medical care
- Ability to quickly establish effective working relationships and influence with key partners and stakeholders
- A thorough and up to date understanding of the anti- doping rules and regulations in sport
Qualifications
Member or Fellow of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine- Diploma or MSc in Sports Medicine
- GMC Specialist Register in Sport and Exercise medicine
- BLS certificate
- Current enhanced DBS check
- Appropriate professional indemnity insurance

Experience - Previous experience working in the pre-hospital setting, including at previous London Marathon or similar elite endurance athletic events including both able-bodied and para-athletes
