Specifications Technologist
Overall Purpose: Contribute to the overall R&D / Technical support given to customers by preparing finished product specifications in line with customer and legislation requirements. Maintain Formpak software to generate safety data sheets and product labels. Maintain raw material specifications.
Key Accountabilities and Tasks
- Create and maintain product specifications
- Maintain an auditable record of specifications sent to customers
- Maintain an auditable record of specification changes for products
- Maintain specifications and safety data sheets for raw materials
- Maintain supplier approval records
- Maintain record of allergen status of raw materials and finished products
- Create and maintain product safety data sheets using Formpak software
- Maintain information on product labelling
- HACCP team member
- Attend UKFA technical meetings
- Liaison with regulatory bodies as required
- Respond to customer questionnaires and requests for documents
- Work closely with the Managing Director, consult with external organisations and liaise with others on technical issues to ensure products meet current UK legislation
- Keep up to date with knowledge of food safety legislation and nutrition, new technology and raw materials
- Work closely with technical team to ensure customers receive swift, professional service
- Liaison with other Claremont departments / personnel as required
- Other tasks to support the business plan as and when required to ensure company business objectives are met
- Bring issues or non-conformances to attention of management, in particular if related to food safety
Key Skills & Experience
- Ability to review and process highly detailed specifications and product data
- Numerate and literate with excellent communication skills
- Ability to deliver clear and concise ideas and produce high quality documentation
- Proactive and organized with strong time management and planning skills
- Meticulous attention to detail and a proven ability to multi-task
- Able to meet deadlines and remain calm under pressure
Person Specification / Key Behaviours:
- Ideally have a Science Degree
- Be forward thinking, adaptable and practical
- Externally orientated and customer focused
- Self-starter capable of operating independently and remotely without direct day-to-day supervision
- Highly motivated and self-driven
- Committed and proactive
- Analytical and inquisitive with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable dealing with people at all levels
