Specialist Weight Management Dietitian Salford, North West England, England

Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust
Full Time Salford, North West England, England 35392 - 42618 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

An opportunity has arisen to work as a specialist dietitian working with patients with severe and complex obesity. The team provides support to the Tier 3 weight management service and also pre and post op support to patients in tier 4, requiring Bariatric surgery.

The complex nature of patients means that there is good and established MDT working to ensure our patients are able to have their complex needs met. We are a forward-thinking team, keen to develop and improve the face of dietetics to ensure the highest level of patient care and as such we use innovative remote monitoring technology alongside more traditional care delivery practices. We work flexibly to provide the most appropriate care to our patients. We provide outpatients care in face to face clinics, remote online consultations, telephone consultations and virtual group sessions. We also work in the acute setting, providing support to patients that have had bariatric surgery, and use nutrition support techniques to support those who may experience post operative complications.

As obesity is a chronic condition, it is often seen alongside other illness, so skills and experience in other areas or dietetics are beneficial. We see patients with Kidney disease awaiting transplant, patients from other specialities (e.g. orthopaedics / gynaecology / endocrinology / colorectal) waiting for surgery, fertility treatment etc, so our work load is variable and can be challenging.

Working with patients who have a range of complex needs to achieve their weight management objectives using appropriate, evidenced based strategies across a range of settings; for example using injectable therapies alongside behaviour change techniques. The role also includes preparing patients for bariatric surgery, and supporting them afterwards to achieve safe, lifelong weight loss.
To deliver specialist clinical work as part of the multidisciplinary team providing specialist Dietetic care and contributing to patient outcomes. You will regularly work alongside Consultant Endocrinologist and Psychologists.

Whilst this is a static position within the weight management team the successful applicant could move into the rotation program in the future if desired.

The team sits within the wider Salford dietetic service of over 50 dietitians and dietetic assistants which includes team members who have completed Advanced Practice, PhD and Prescribing courses and as a department we continually strive to improve the quality of care for our patients by way of QI and research projects, audit and innovation. The sever and complex obesity team have presented work at national conferences, submitted publications and are also involved in student training, both in the hospital and at 2 universities.
