Specialist Mentor (casual post) Brighton, England
Job description
Join our team of Specialist Mentors offering individual support for students to gain equal access to their studies by providing guidance with non-subject specific study skills such as developing organisational skills, managing workloads and time management, as well as maintaining academic progress.
You will have proven and demonstrable experience of working individually with adults with mental health conditions and autistic students, as well as a high level of analytical and problem solving ability.
We require mentors at our Brighton and Eastbourne sites and ideally you will be able to commit to a minimum of two days a week, providing regular and consistent support. Each mentoring session will consist of mentoring and preparation work.
Mentors can provide support in-person on campus and also remotely via video calls. Ideally we are seeking mentors who can do some in-person work as this is in high demand from students.
- PLEASE NOTE due to government legislation all mentors must have membership of certain professional bodies and/or specific qualifications to work with a) Students with Mental Health conditions and b) Autistic students, so we cannot accept applications from those that do not meet this criteria. Please check pp8-12 of the document at the following link prior to making an application: final-nmh-qualifications-matrix-july2023.pdf (slc.co.uk)
In addition, a DBS check will be required for this role. Interviews are likely to be held in September 2023. However, we reserve the right to interview candidates before the closing date where appropriate.
This role is paid at £26.58 per hour. One session with a student, including writing up action-plans and arranging the next session should all be completed within one hour.
