As physiotherapists we are key members of a multidisciplinary team geared to the rehabilitation of patients undergoing surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy in both in and outpatient settings. Band 4 Specialist Exercise Instructor, Full time 37.5 hours a week, Sutton based (with some cross site working). An opportunity has arisen for a motivated exercise professional to join the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will provide tailored exercise support for patients undergoing cancer treatment. We are looking for an enthusiastic exercise professional with experience in exercise referral, who keen to specialise in oncology. You will be supported by the physiotherapy team and an Exercise Specialist
The Specialist Exercise Instructor is an active member of the physiotherapy team and aims to support people with cancer at the Royal Marsden in providing a high quality service to prescribe exercise. Taking referrals from physiotherapy staff, and a Band 5 Exercise Specialist, the post holder will work both independently and with supervision to deliver individualised and group exercise. They will have responsibility for their own case load with advice and support from Physiotherapy staff.

Service delivery
Promote exercise as part of the Living with and Beyond Cancer agenda to enable patients to self-manage their condition.
- Following assessment by qualified members of Physiotherapy staff, implement exercise programs for people with cancer. Interventions may be carried out in individual and group settings as appropriate
- Together with the band 5 Exercise Specialist, run exercise classes on both sites of the hospital, for specific groups of patients including pre-treatment, on treat chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and following in patient discharge
- Take responsibility for running exercises unsupervised with pre-assessed groups of patients
- Develop an awareness of common problems effecting people with cancer such as fatigue, weakness, peripheral neuropathy
- Adapt and modify exercises to suit the needs of the individual while maintaining their effectiveness
