About the role

The post holder will join the Special Collections and Archives Division within the Department of Library and Archives at the Natural History Museum. The purpose of the role is to curate, develop, promote and support innovative engagement with the Special Collections held in the Library and Archives.

The role covers a broad range of collection responsibilities including the day-to-day collections management for the Library Special Collections and assisting in their collection development and promotion. The role will also provide support for their digital development to increase their discoverability and accessibility for researchers, students and visitors to the Library and Archives and driving our commitment to world-class collections and services for research, teaching and learning.

About you

The successful candidate should hold a postgraduate qualification in Library and Information Science or Archives recognised by CILIP or ARA (or equivalent). Experience of working in a customer-focused research environment, collections access and promotion as well as creating and amending catalogue records to national and international standards with knowledge and/or experience of RDA, MARC 21, and ISAD(G). Experience of collections management, researching and working with special collection materials, including photographic materials and mixed media archival collections their handling and care, conservation and preservation considerations.

You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to quickly establish effective working relationships with colleagues and users and have a positive attitude. The ideal candidate will also work independently as well as in a team to deliver agreed objectives and customer-facing services and activities.
