Southampton Culture Trust was established to lead the 2025 UK City of Culture bid. After an extraordinary three years during which Southampton showed a collaborative commitment to Culture, Festivals and Events and tourism and received a boost in investment in regular funding for our creative sector, we’re delighted that this has created a step-change in our city. Culture is intrinsic to the future development of Southampton, and with recent success of a Place Partnership grant from Arts Council England, Southampton Culture Trust can now plan with certainty for the next three years and beyond.
We’re recruiting a new team to support this ambitious approach and work in partnership to support the delivery of a culture-led vision in Southampton. We’re excited by this opportunity to grow our team and discover talented individuals in the city, and beyond, that can play their part in turning the vision into a reality.
We are currently recruiting for the following permanent roles:
- Commercial and Marketing Director
- Trust Secretariat & Operations Manager
- Finance Manager
- Executive Assistant

Being part of a dynamic team and working with the Chief Executive and Board of Trustees, the role will lead on all commercial activities, fundraising and partnerships, and identify different value propositions and potential growth areas for the charity. You will bring your experience and knowledge of marketing and communications at a senior level to lead the team’s engagement strategy through effective campaigns and projects.
To be successful in the role you will have an entrepreneurial approach, excellent leadership and project management skills, an analytical background with a background of driving successful outcomes.

You will work in collaboration with the CEO of the Southampton Culture Trust to strengthen the Executive Leadership team and inspire and lead the charity’s income generation and Marketing and Communications function. Key responsibilities will include:
- Taking the lead on all commercial activities, fundraising and partnerships, and identifying different value propositions and potential growth areas for the charity.
- Leading the development and implementation of a high impact Brand and Marketing and Communications Strategy in collaboration with the CEO of Southampton Culture Trust and wider team as well as colleagues across the city.
- Managing the Marketing and Communications Manager, Development Manager and Digital Coordinator.
- Working effectively with colleagues, agencies, suppliers, supporters, and communities to collaboratively develop and deliver the Southampton Culture Trust Marketing and Communications campaigns, projects, and strategies.
- Working in an innovative and cost-effective way identifying KPIs and targets for new opportunities in revenue generation across multiple approaches from commercial partnerships and potential product development to grant funding and individual giving.
- A mixture of strategic management and operational hands-on delivery
You will lead a successful commercial strategy for the Trust:
- To build the commercial and fundraising capability of the Culture Trust and lead on all income generation
- To identify current value propositions and potential growth areas for the charity to enter, contributing to the valuable work the Trust does in growing and nurturing Culture, Festivals and Events and tourism in the city
- Working closely with Fundraising and Marketing team members and, building the team to hit targets and ROIs, and to recognise each funding stream and its impact on the areas of focus through Culture, Festivals and Events and Tourism
- Managing these streams to ensure they are raising the required funds for the required services, represent the charity in supplier negotiations, supporters and funders meetings, and networking opportunities
- Monitoring the performance of all income streams for the Trust and overseeing the reporting of impact across all funding and commercial partners
Provide inspirational leadership:
- To manage the Marketing and Communications Manager, Development Manager and Digital Coordinator and provide inspirational leadership modelling for the whole team
- To work with city partners to build potential income sources with a high degree of professionalism and enter negotiations on behalf of the Trust
- To build Southampton Culture Trust fundraising opportunities across the city with partners
Effective operation and systems for income generation:
- To build the commercial infrastructure within Southampton Culture Trust to enable effective operation of commercial activity and ensuring that systems and process are fit for purpose and represent best practice within regulatory frameworks
- To ensure compliance with the Charity Commission and Fundraising regulator best practice
- Working with the Trust Secretariat & Operations Manager to ensure CRM systems and use of data are GDPR compliant
Management of financial risk and reputation:
- To ensure commercial risks are assessed and managed effectively
- To ensure the commercial activity operates in harmony with the provision of statutory services and complies with all relevant legislation as well as working upholding the reputation and integrity of the Southampton Culture Trust
Additional duties:
- To represent Southampton Culture Trust and attend cultural events initiated by Southampton Culture Trust or cultural organisations in the city
- Any other duties as required by the CEO

Salary: £55,812.71-£68,000.00 per year
