About the Role
LexisNexis UK are looking for a highly motivated software engineering manager to aid in the scaling and transformation of the UK technology organisation. The role will be to help modernize the technology landscape and part line management to drive the usage of industry recognized best practices across the engineering functions.
You will be a key instigator and model citizen in establishing an agile, value driven culture and ensuring we are building high quality products that the business is proud of.
Reporting into the Legal Technology Director you will be a pivotal member of the UK technology leadership team.

As a Software Engineering Manager, you will provide leadership and vision to developers working on our software. Working closely with peers and senior leaders you'll be ensuring the successful completion and delivery of software. Additional responsibilities may include budgeting, identifying and supporting talent, and defining resource requirements and allocations.
Responsibilities
  • You will career manage between approximately 6 and 14 engineers in flat, cross functional, end to end teams. The teams are responsible for delivery and operation of high quality, secure and robust features in production.
  • Driving broader adoption of a test driven development approach and that it is understood, adhered to and embedded within the teams
  • Engendering within the individuals and teams a culture of continuous improvement and love of the craft software development
  • Managing and recruitment of highly motivated software engineering people who want to make a difference within the company and to our customers
  • Flat structure across the engineering function and a willingness to all be open, honest and intent on listening to everyone’s opinions
  • An agile culture that is about delivering value frequently to our users using CI/CD principles
  • An architecture that is in transition between legacy and modern, strategic technologies
  • A collaborative atmosphere between product, content, delivery and technology
  • Cross functional delivery teams, focused on value driven development and measurement of success
Requirements
  • Software Engineering background - .NET development experience OR experience managing a .NET team.
  • Line Management experience – experience managing a team of at least 6 Engineers.
  • Experience managing, coaching, career development – inspiring people to improve and make their own technology decisions
  • Strong experience in advocating modern ways of working and development techniques (for us, this is especially TDD, pair programming, TBD, A/B testing)
  • Experience in encouraging software best practices (e.g. SOLID, software craftsmanship, Gang of Four patterns, etc.)
  • Evidence of continuous improvement of teams or the organization ( having talks about enabling positive change, making things better, iterative improvements, fighting for one’s team)
  • Evidence of Continuous Delivery practices (talks about CI/CD, cloud infra, IaC, deployment, blue/green deployment, canary releases, DORA)
  • A leadership style that aligns with our culture (servant leadership, continuous improvement, learning culture, focus on people)
  • Awareness of security in software
  • Experience of building secure software with fully automated build pipelines hosted within the cloud (ideally AWS)
