Software Engineer (Graduate) Cambridge, East of England, England

Gearset
Full Time Cambridge, East of England, England 41000 - 47000 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

It’s an exciting time to join Gearset! In the last few years we’ve rocketed from a 7 person start-up to over 190 people, and we have no intention of slowing down. As a product-driven company founded by engineers, we know the value of a great engineering culture, and we’re looking for experienced developers to join a team built from the ground up on trust, teamwork and tight feedback loops.

Our engineering team is driven by a genuine desire to make the lives of our customers easier, and we do that by helping each other deliver consistently outstanding work. We’re confident in our product, and we have big plans for the future.

Whats the opportunity?

  • Our small teams get responsibility for a company goal, not building specific features. You’ll have the opportunity to impact what we build, as well as how we build it.
  • A great team can only do its best work with context and feedback - there’s no substitute for talking directly with the people impacted by our work. Engineers work across the business and talk directly to customers and partners.
  • Our tech stack includes a mix of proven technologies, such as C#, React, Typescript, Postgres, AWS and Docker. You’ll become familiar with our pragmatically chosen stack, but* you’ll also help us define what great looks like*.
  • We release Gearset multiple times a day and can roll back any release instantly if we find an issue. We continually invest in our process and infrastructure, and that enables us to build tight feedback loops, fix problems immediately, and delight our users.
  • We’re allergic to pointless meetings. We only add process when it helps us get things done.

You'll be a good fit if you

  • Have (or are about to graduate with) a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Can write code and solve complex problems
  • Write well-structured, testable code, with a focus on simplicity and maintainability
  • Care about quality, not only of the code you write, but of the product you're building
  • Are interested in both frontend and backend development
  • Enjoy working with a collaborative team of varied disciplines, including software developers, designers, marketers and salespeople
  • Have an enthusiasm for working directly with users to build and deliver the right features

Working as Graduate Software Engineer at Gearset, you’ll

  • Maintain and extend existing features, and collaborate with the rest of the development team to spec, design and build new features end-to-end
  • Learn from a great team - alumni of Microsoft, EA and Cambridge University to name a few!
  • Be assigned a mentor from day one and be supported by a team of people who enjoy seeing others grow their skills.
  • Become familiar with a pragmatically-chosen tech stack, including a mix of proven technologies such as Docker, AWS, C#, React and TeamCity
  • Work closely with users, delighting them with software improvements, researching new features and soliciting feedback
  • Contribute opinions on a range of topics, from development practices to product strategy and roadmap

Salary and Benefits

  • You'll work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, in our Cambridge office, with the option of flexible home working
  • Salary is £41k - £47k, depending on experience and qualifications
  • Personal L&D budget of up to £1500 per year
  • 25 days holiday plus bank holidays
  • Company Pension Plan (matching up to 5%)
  • Bupa health care
  • Life Insurance & Critical Illness cover
  • Flexible working hours
  • Free lunch in the office
  • Discounted gym membership, as well as many other wellness benefits
