Job Description
Siemens Energy Grid Technologies deliver systems to the energy industry that provide for safe operation and monitoring of power systems and equipment using a range of innovative products.
You will work within the multi-disciplined Engineering team delivering the next generation of condition monitoring systems for high voltage electrical substations. Your primary role will be focused on operational software delivery and lead the specification, testing and delivery of new and existing software solutions to meet customer requirements. You will respond to technical software problems and customer support queries relating to systems and solutions and deliver functional enhancements to existing sites/systems.
What are my responsibilities?
- Day-to-day you will be responsible for supporting the technical delivery of global projects in the electricity transmission sector, with an emphasis on condition monitoring equipment software. This will include:
- Installing, configuring, operating, debugging product software applications and services
- Providing technical software support to customers and other stakeholders
- Lead software release testing & developing processes/documentation
- Supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT) of solutions
- Assessing operational feedback relating to software and proactively engaging to find appropriate solutions
- Investigate new software solutions as per business requirements
- Building on existing and maintaining relationships with internal business partners
- Keeping up to date with new technologies by attending external & internal courses
What do I need to qualify for this job?
Qualifications
Degree level qualification in Computer Science/Software or related disciplines/experience
Requirements
- Proficient with common software technologies and frameworks (.net, C#)
- Proficient with common software tools (Microsoft Visual Studio, Git, JIRA)
- General experience in software scripting, configuration and debugging
- Knowledge of modern computer technology, protocols and Operating Systems (Linux and Windows)
- Knowledge of Cyber security vulnerability tools and processes
- Competent in deploying and configuring software packages and patches
- Leading product software testing and developing testing quality processes.
- Experience with networking devices and topologies (IP based)
- Able to work within a team and also independently as required
- Must be able to work on own initiative for problem solving and provide innovative solutions
- Ability to learn new skills and techniques quickly and efficiently
Requirements - Ideal
- Knowledge of SCADA and other Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) alarm systems
- Knowledge of electrical industry protocol requirements (IEC61850, DNP3, Modbus, OPC etc)
- Knowledge of WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux)
- Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or MS Azure
- Experience working within the electrical transmission industry is advantageous (but not essential)
- Experience working with equipment within a live low voltage/high voltage environment
Position in Organisation
- You will report to the Monitoring & Technology Delivery Lead.
- You will be required to work from Newcastle (UK) with the possibility of national and international travel as required.
