Join GSK’s R&D (Research and Development) Apprentice Programme – Ware UK, 2023: Help us get ahead of disease together

A GSK apprenticeship gives you the chance to earn while you learn. This Apprenticeship lasts up to 4 years and is a practical, hands-on apprenticeship where we will equip you with the skills and knowledge to tackle a variety of software application development challenges working within our digital solutions team.

We are looking for motivated individuals with a willingness and enthusiasm to learn, who are excited to develop practical and problems solving skills. No prior experience is required as you will be given full training.

If you successfully complete your apprenticeship and demonstrate the qualities we are looking for, you may be offered the opportunity to go on to further education.

Achieve your career goals on our apprentice programme

On our 4-year programme you’ll receive tailored on-the-job training from industry experts from day one combined with early responsibility to help you to develop and progress.

You’ll be working towards a BSc in Digital Technology Solutions (Software) through online university-led learning sessions and activities. For more information see: Digital and technology solutions professional (integrated degree) / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education.

If you are offered a role; you will have a buddy or a mentor who will help you to prepare for joining GSK and will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.

Education required:

• GCSE Mathematics and English Language (grade A* -C/ 9-4) or equivalent
• Must have/ be predicted 104 UCAS points at A-level (grades BCC) or an equivalent (e.g., BTEC DMM)

Language requirement: Written and spoken fluency in English

Expected Start date: September 2023

Our Ware facility is a key drug product manufacturing site within the GSK network, and one of GSK’s flagship New Product Introduction sites, bringing respiratory and oncology products to patients all over the world.

As a Software Developer at GSK, you will help drive the accessibility of application development through the utilisation of low-code solutions within R&D Tech. Working with other technology teams, you will build tools that support the complex needs of our R&D business.

The Software Developer apprenticeship will equip you with the skills and knowledge to tackle a variety of software application development challenges working within our digital solutions team supporting both the clinical trial supply chain and its supporting business processes – the heartbeat of our company.

What will you do?

• Develop Low Code Application to support clinical supply chain business processes
• Learn how to deliver low-code solutions based on product roadmaps and innovation working within a small and focused agile team
• Develop user experience (UX ) designing skills working with UX Designers to understand and build standard UI components for use to R&D users
• Learn and understand how the technical delivery is fully compliant with GSK Security, Quality and Regulatory standards
• Engage in experimentation and innovation to drive relentless application development skills, finding ways to capitalise on low-code solutions to reduce technical debt/risk
• Gain experience with agile development methods, security strategies and best practices, data integration mechanisms and architectural design tools
• Learning new skills and concepts
• Studying towards your Bachelor’s Degree (BSc)
