Role Summary
StARS (Student Administration Refresh and Simplification) is a University-wide programme to simplify, standardise and improve our student administration services, enabled by a replacement and upgrade of our student record system. Its vision is to deliver a better experience for students, academics and Professional Services staff; and enables a fundamental shift towards a more flexible set of capabilities and services that are fit for the future.
StARS programme is looking to recruit a Lead Developer to join the Programme’s Team. As a senior member of this team, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and support of Azure Integration Service (AIS) integration services.
Experience of working with other student record systems is also desirable. We are looking for a driven, team player who is continually learning and comfortable providing technical leadership and mentoring to other developers in the team.
Day to day you will be working within a programme technical team. You will also work closely with the other IT Services teams and stakeholders across the institution to deliver new features and services as well as supporting the day-to-day operations of student administration.
Main Duties
- Develop tactical and strategically significant digital solutions utilising multiple technologies.
- Lead the development of integrations on the AIS platform in line with specified requirements and standards.
- Lead the support and enhancement of AIS integrations.
- Lead the use of source control.
- Lead on the use of automation to enhance delivery processes.
- Lead the use of Agile Scrum techniques to develop integrations.
- Collaborate with team to share knowledge of AIS.
- Collaborate with lead developers from other teams to share knowledge.
- Collaborate with non-technical colleagues from the wider University.
- Keep abreast of technological practices and trends to continuously improve ways of working.
- Ensure that appropriate standards (corporate, industry, national and international) are adhered to.

Education and Training
Essential:
- University degree or equivalent
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development

Relevant Experience
Essential:
Proven experience of systems development lifecycle including requirements capture, analysis, design, development, testing and
user documentation
Solid understanding of IT project management and planning including milestones, critical paths and change management
Substantial experience, as part of a team, of developing, maintaining, configuring and deploying IT applications on a wide variety of platforms, operating systems and computer technologies
- Logic Apps,
- Service Bus,
- API Management,
- Event Grid,
- Azure Functions, and
- Azure Data Factory
Experience of C# development.
Experience using source control, in particular Git.
Experience writing and applying automated tests.
Experience of using Terraform.
Experience creating and maintain Continuous Deployment/Continuous Integration pipelines.
Experience of developing databases and stored procedures on Microsoft SQL Server.
Experience of developing REST APIs.
Desirable:
A good awareness of the issues facing UK higher education and how they affect university support

A good understanding of the learning, teaching, business and research needs of staff and students in higher education
