Job description
The John Lewis Partnership is a truly unique business, one that seeks to make a positive difference to the lives of everyone. Working in Partnership for a happier world; our shared Purpose that guides us in everything we do and inspires three important principles; happier people, happier business, happier world.
What’s the role about?
As part of the Technology & Change (T&C) division, our Service Management organisation owns, develops and runs the key ITIL processes that underpin our end to end service.
The asset management team is accountable for the ongoing management and tracking of all JLP hardware and software assets, ensuring that JLP is compliant with its licensing and contractual obligations.
As a Software Asset Manager, your role will be ensuring that the Partnership understands the software deployed, the required licensing and assuring that the Partnership is compliant with licensing, legal and contractual obligations in respect of software.
It is an exciting opportunity to be a key part of the team delivering a new way of working and directly supporting the commercial success of our 3rd party relationships.
What you’ll be doing as Asset Lead - Software Asset Manager:
In practice, this will require you using our Software Asset Management tool, Flexera, to prepare Effective Licence Positions (ELPs), making recommendations on potential risks and mitigations and ensuring that Service Owners are aware of their accountabilities in respect of licensing.
You will also be responsible for establishing SAM controls and processes, providing licensing advice to service owners, projects, and procurement, managing vendor licence audits, identifying opportunities to optimise our software use and providing education and awareness of licensing across T&C.
You will have specific responsibilities to manage, configure and enhance Flexera, IBM Licence Management Tool (ILMT) and Airtrack. Good knowledge of ServiceNow asset and configuration management will be an added advantage.
You will have the opportunity to develop and stretch personally and professionally to achieve your potential.
What you’ll have:
You will have experience of working in a Software Asset Management role at a similar level with comparable accountabilities.
You will be able to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of specific vendor licensing, particularly one or more of IBM, Oracle, Microsoft, Vmware, Adobe and the complexities of understanding the licensing positions of their products.
The JLP IT environment has grown organically over the years. You will need to interact with technology infrastructure and application teams and therefore you will need to demonstrate a good practical understanding of core technologies, such as Vmware, AIX, Windows server and desktop.
With a multi-partner organisation, you will need to be able to demonstrate strong stakeholder relationship management and communication and analytical skills.
What else you could bring:
With a multi-partner organisation, you will need to be able to demonstrate strong stakeholder relationship management and communication and analytical skills.
As we are not in a steady state, experience of establishing a Software Asset Management function would be beneficial, as would experience of working in a heavily outsourced and/or complex IT environment. As JLP moves to more cloud based hosting and applications, it would also be desirable to have experience of software licensing in Cloud (PAAS, SAAS). Ideally you will have a good working knowledge of Flexera.
