Do you feel passionate about supporting young people to achieve their very best?

Are you looking for opportunities to gain experience within a dynamic and innovative team?

About Us

Surrey County Council's Targeted Youth Support (TYS) Service supports some of the county's most vulnerable young people to ensure they have the best chance of thriving and succeeding as adults. The service works with young people at risk of offending, family breakdown, homelessness, sexual exploitation and criminal exploitation. The service provides help at the point when problems emerge, preventing the need for more specialist services further down the line. The TYS Service also holds the Youth Offending function for the county, supervising young people in the Youth Justice System in Surrey.

At Surrey, our Children's Services are on a rapid change journey with new management, innovative approaches and considerable energy. We are determined that children, young people and their families will be at the centre of all we do and are changing our model of work to one which supports excellent children's services, with Targeted Youth Support providing targeted help services at the heart of our journey.

Surrey Children's Services believes that the welfare of children and their families is paramount. Our team members are enthusiastic and supportive, committed to the provision of a quality service for young people and their carers and we are looking for people with similar qualities to join us to continue the good work already being done.

About The Role

The role of the Targeted Youth Support Social Worker is to provide experience and leadership for practice within the TYS Team, including the assessment, management of risk and case holding. This role will work with some of the most complex young people and families that the service supports and as such we are looking for social workers who have completed their post qualifying year and have previous experience of working with adolescents. The role is also responsible for supporting the training and mentoring of new and less experienced staff and to provide help and guidance to prevent the escalation of young people to the Safeguarding Adolescent Team.

As a member of our team, you will be working alongside other social workers, partners, agencies and the voluntary sector to support children and their families in the community.

Surreys Children’s service keeps on improving and with children at the heart of everything we do we share a passion, desire and commitment to become a high performing local authority and ultimately be recognised by Ofsted as Good and then Outstanding. We understand that the key to our success is our motivated and supported workforce who share our values and commitment to improving the lives of children in Surrey.

You will need to be registered with Social Work England and have the willingness and ability to travel around the county to meet the demands of this role.
