The Vale of Glamorgan Council is welcoming applications for its new Intake and Family Support Teams in its Children and Young People Services Division.
Following significant investment into Children and Young People Services, we have created a number of posts to add capacity and resilience across our teams. As a Social Worker in the Vale of Glamorgan you will have a manageable workload, excellent support and time to spend with children and young people.

About the role

The Directorate has a wide range of statutory duties and responsibilities. Its primary role is to protect, support and meet the social care needs of vulnerable children and adults, helping them to achieve the best quality of life possible.

- Child Health and Disability

Primarily, we are looking for qualified Social Workers to work in our Intake and Family Support Teams.
Social Workers in our Intake Team play a vital role in responding to all new referrals and in ensuring we provide an effective initial response. The Team is well resourced to enable workers to operate in a timely way but also with time to reflect.
Social Workers in our two Family Support Teams support families once an assessment and initial plan is established by our Intake Team. You will develop longer term relationships with families to help them achieve what matters to them. Work will be purposeful and risks will be managed confidently.
In each of the teams, workers are able to be kind, consistent and focussed in their work with children, young people and their families / carers. Managers are readily available and staff wellbeing is a priority.
Full Job Details:
Pay Details: Grade 8, SCP 26 – 30 £32909 - £36298 p.a. / Grade 9, SCP 31 – 35 £37261 - £41496 p.a.
Salary on appointment will depend upon qualification and experience as determined by the appointing officer. There is no automatic progression from Grade 8 to Grade 9
The following teams; Intake / Family Support will have an additional annual enhancement of £5,000
Hours of Work: 37 hours / Full time (unless otherwise discussed)
Main Place of Work: Docks Office, Barry
DBS Check Required: Enhanced
About you
You will need:
- A recognised Degree/Diploma or equivalent qualification in Social Work i.e. Degree, DipSW, CQSW etc.
- Registration with the Care Council
- Experience of Social Work with children, young people with complex needs and their families.
- Experience of Multi-Agency working
- Knowledge of Principles of the Children Act, Child care legislation, guidance and national standards.
