Overview
RINA Consulting is currently seeking an experienced Senior Social Consultant to work with our international Environmental , Social and Governance team. The candidate will be part of the team assigned to assess, review and monitor the social aspects of projects promoted by International Financial Institutions. This is a full-time, permanent role, ideally based out of our Brighton office.
Job Responsibilities
As a Senior Consultant, you will:
- Be involved in preparing effective technical proposals, and supporting the development of new business with new and existing clients.
- Assess and manage social impacts/risks, sustainability and livelihood impacts, undertake and manage stakeholder engagement and prepare mitigation/management recommendations to meet local regulatory requirements and project finance due diligence considerations especially with regard to the Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards and other international financial institution standards e.g. EBRD, AfDB and ADB.
- Manage multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
- Project manage and provide technical review and advice on the social consultancy services of RINA including impact assessments, stakeholder engagement, land acquisition and resettlement, livelihood restoration and community development.
- Prepare Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) including Indigenous Peoples Development Plans (IPDPs), Community Development Social Welfare Programs for Project Affected Persons (PAPs) and obtain clearances for Land Acquisition and rehabilitation
- Monitor, evaluate and supervise the implementation of the resettlement plan and social mitigating measures.
- Undertake social and human rights due diligence assessments and prepare corrective action plans as per established international standards (EP, IFC, ADB, JBIC etc.).
- Mentor Juniors to help them develop their skills
Qualifications / Experience:
Essential:
- Bachelors/Masters/PhD in Social Science, Sociology, Anthropology, Human Geography, Law or similar
- Previous experience in ESDD, External Monitoring and ESIA for Project Financing purposes with particular focus on Social Components Assessment and Compliance
- Previous experience with involuntary resettlement, indigenous peoples management topics
- Working knowledge of international standards (IFC/EBRD/WB/Equator Principles or other Lenders environmental, social, health and safety standards)
- Fluency in verbal and written English
- Direct project/field experience in either social performance, stakeholder management, social due diligence, social impact assessment and management, human rights;
- Experience of conducting social audits, supply chain assessments and working to IFC performance standards;
Desirable:
- Experience with Environmental and Social Management Systems
- French or Spanish language skills
