Job description
Social Worker / AMHP Level 1 - 4 Bournemouth Older People’s Community Mental Health Team, Kings Park Hospital, Boscombe.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified Social Worker / Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to join Bournemouth Older People’s Integrated Community Mental Health Team’s (CMHT’s) based at Kings Park Hospital. Social Worker’s work closely with Psychiatrists, Community Mental Health Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Support Workers, and other colleagues to provide care and support to older adults and their carer’s who have complex needs in relation to their mental health.
Integrated staff share offices with NHS colleagues to provide comprehensive care and support packages, working closely alongside them. Referrals to the teams come mostly from a person’s General Practitioner, but can also be from other Mental Health Services, such as local psychiatric hospitals. Joint assessments with NHS colleagues regularly take place to aid understanding of a person’s mental health and social care needs.
Tasks required of a Social Worker within our teams include completing Care Act assessments and writing subsequent Care and Support Plans, making applications for care and support packages, completing Carer’s Assessments and arranging appropriate support for carer’s. These applications will need to be carefully considered to ensure good value for money for the Council. Social Worker’s within the teams are also expected to complete Section 42, Safeguarding Investigations when concerns of abuse arise.
The successful candidate will be a qualified, experienced Social Worker, who is registered with Social Work England. They will be able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to support and engage with older adults who have both functional and organic difficulties with their mental health. They should have a good knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP), qualified to undertake Mental Health Act assessments. They will also ideally be a qualified Best Interests Assessor (BIA). If the successful candidate is not AMHP / BIA qualified, they should be prepared to consider completing this training.
The closing date for applications is 13 August 2023 and the interviews will be taking place around 04 September 2023.

Team Manager.
Bournemouth Older People’s CMHT’s.
As a result of the creation of BCP Council in 2019, we are working on simplifying our terms and conditions of service and will be creating a single pay structure which is to be applicable for all employees. It is important to us that we offer benefits that our colleagues value as part of their total employment package and we are reviewing these to make sure we have it right. We are in the process of establishing a timescale for implementation and colleagues joining us will be included in these changes. Expected to be in place 2024.
