Job description

Social Policy
London

As a Barclays Social Policy, you will be assisting the team with the day-to-day management of the Group’s proactive advocacy, engagement, and positioning on specific social sustainability matters, in particular human rights, modern slavery and just transition. This is a key role that may require dedicated or accelerated focus to ensure successful delivery of the team’s goals, including working on critical internal projects - as determined and specified by the Director Social Policy and the Group Head of Sustainability.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, with 329 years of success, quality, and innovation behind us. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

We are currently in the early stages of implementing a hybrid working environment, which means that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. We’re flexible on how this works and it may continue to change and evolve. Depending on your team, typically this means that colleagues spend a minimum of between 20% to 60% of their time in the office, which could be over a week, a month, or a quarter. However, some colleagues may choose to spend more time in the office over a typical period than their role type requires. We also have a flexible working process where, subject to business needs, all colleagues globally can request work patterns to reflect their personal circumstances. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

What will you be doing?
• Aiding the Director Social Policy and VP Social Policy on developing Barclays strategic approach and positioning on key Social Policy topics
  • Working on the creation, maintenance, adherence, and advocacy of our Social Policies, within the broader (Sustainability & Environmental, Social, Governance) S&ESG team
  • Leading other teams on sustainable finance, climate change, nature & biodiversity to ensure complementary approaches across these areas of work
  • Responding to both internal and external enquiries on Social Policy topics, with ac-countability for developing messaging on material areas of interest
  • Supporting the research and horizon scanning for new and emerging Social Policy is-sues to ensure that Barclays anticipates and responds to the needs of its stakeholders
  • Working closely with the Sustainability ESG governance team to ensure robust pro-cesses are in place for Social Policy implementation and roll out
  • Providing training across the range of environmental and social issues which Barclays is linked to, with a particular focus on human rights, modern slavery and just transition
  • Assisting with the development of specific content for annual disclosures, bench-marks, and statements, as well as new public positions on material Social Policy topics

What we’re looking for:
• Relevant professional experience and solid grasp of Social Policy issues in relation to the financial services sector, particularly in relation to business and human rights
  • Excellent analytical skills (both quantitative and qualitative) and communication skills with the ability to look at both the detail and the strategic elements of projects
  • Exceptional project management and organisational skills
  • Good stakeholder management skills, both internal and external to engage with external initiatives and with colleagues from different teams

Skills that will help you in the role:
• Good grasp of the financial services sector and its products/services, in relation to the Corporate and Investment Banking division
  • Familiarity with environmental and social risk management, in the context of client due diligence
  • Experience in applying new approaches and methodologies on complex topics would be beneficial (for example, impact assessments)
  • Background or degree expertise in working on human rights, just transition and modern slavery

Where will you be working?
In the heart of Canary Wharf, our headquarters at Churchill Place boasts onsite amenities such as: a gym, staff restaurant and deli bar, and is easily accessible by tube and bus links. With a population of around 5000 staff the atmosphere is second to none with a real buzz being created around the offices within.
