RSPCA
Full Time Remote 24582 - 28921 GBP ANNUAL Today
Job description

Do you love creating engaging and insightful media posts? Are you naturally curious about what's going on in the world of social media with your finger on the pulse of what's trending? Then we have the pawfect opportunity for you as Social Media Officerto join the RSPCA's Press, Media and Social Engagement team on a 12 Month Fixed Term Contract. You will actively engage our audiences across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and our newest additions, TikTok and Threads.

This role is fundamental in educating people about animals' needs, informing people about animal welfare developments, showcasing the work of the RSPCA, promoting ways for people to get involved, engaging them in legislative campaigns, helping animals find forever homes, and finding perpetrators of animal cruelty. Whilst some of our content can be difficult, messaging it truly is a rewarding role and you will finish each day knowing you've achieved something for animals! You'll also get to work within a supaw supportive team of animal lovers who are dedicated to helping the voiceless.

With the RSPCA currently entering a transition stage and our 200 year anniversary next year, it is a great time to come and join us as we step towards a historic milestone and celebrate all the amazing work we have accomplished throughout these years.

The role will be home based with occasional travel to our South East Regional Hub in Horsham, West Sussex or our London Hub in Southwark when needed. (You and your line manager will discuss how often you need to be in the office, but our divisional meetings when we all get together occur every 6 weeks)

Here's some of the key work that you will be doing...

  • Creating and delivering social media content, including producing creative and writing copy
  • Community management, including dealing with confrontational people and upsetting (sometimes very graphic) content depicting animal cruelty, which will require emotional resilience
  • We need to know how impactful campaigns are so you will be reporting on the success of campaigns
  • Providing support to the field base (our frontline animal rescuers and animal centres) on their use of social media
  • Assisting in the management of online volunteers - these truly are a lifeline for us!
  • Supporting influencer outreach in order to amplify our messaging to new audiences
  • Providing out-of-hours social cover on a rotating basis, approximately once every 5-6 weeks. This will include around 8 hours over weekends and 2 hours each weekday evening for the course of a week at a time. Additional compensation will be provided for this cover, including overtime and a standby allowance which is paid at 25% of your hourly rate for time spent on ‘standby'.

What we are looking for in you...

Due to the nature of our organisation, you will need to be comfortable being exposed to the distressing and upsetting images which our frontline workers have to experience every day.

  • It goes without saying that you will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with an ability to alter tone and style
  • Project management skills - to independently manage delegated assignments and juggle competing priorities
  • Basic analytical skills, including experience of interrogating systems and compiling reports
  • Absolute attentoin to detail (can you see what we did there?)
  • Creative skills, including video editing and image manipulation
  • And of course, you must have a true passion for animal welfare to deliver the message to our audiences. As mentioned some of our content can be upsetting so you will need emotional resilience - we are a highly supportive, empathetic team with great internal employee assistance programmes to help you

So if you are highly organised, tech savvy and ready to be an ambassador for the largest animal welfare charity in England and Wales, we'd love to hear from you!!

Why work for the RSPCA?
