Job summary

We are looking for a talented communication professional to join Defra Communications group’s Digital Engagement and Creative Content team to optimise our content and maximise engagement on social media - ensuring that digital is at the heart of our communications.

The Social Media Manager is responsible for planning and producing powerful and compelling digital content that supports our campaigns across a range of platforms.

This hands-on role will be responsible for creating and managing the digital creative content for a wide range of departmental announcements and campaigns, telling our story to online audiences.

Job description

  • Produce expert-standard social content, optimised for different channels, such as statics, videos, animations, Instagram stories, Reels and quizzes.
  • Weave digital storytelling into innovative content for owned channels as well as for external partner channels, writing storyboards for video and animation content
  • Taking part in an incident rota as required, which may on involve working outside offi ce hoursand weekends.
  • Create incident monitoring reports using digital tools such as Brandwatch
  • Write evaluation reports which include actionable insights for future content

Person specification

  • Current experience of leading social media channel management, including professional tools as well as using systems to provide issue monitoring, reporting, rebuttal advice and evaluation for the business.
  • Proven experience of identifying and managing social media collaborations and partnerships
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills reflecting the need to set standards for communication and provide editorial control to ensure appropriate content, messaging, tone and consistency in all communications.

Blended Working

Defra operates a blended working policy subject to business need, giving people the flexibility to choose when and where they work and collaborate with others.

Location

Please be aware that this role(s) will be contractually based in a Defra group workplace/office. The successful candidate is required to carry out all their duties from a UK location, and cannot do so from an overseas location at any time.

Salary

New entrants to the Civil Service are expected to start on the minimum of the pay band. The internal roles rules apply to existing Civil Servants, i.e. level transfers move on current salary or the pay range minimum, transfers on promotion move to new pay range minimum or receive 10% increase. Either case is determined by whichever is the highest.

Loan and Fixed Term Appointments

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Campaigns Officer - Digital in the Campaigns, Marketing and Brand team. The post is not permanent. It is time limited due to a fixed funding period or as part of a specific project. The fixed term will end when the funding or the project expires. Your responsibilities will include developing and managing digital plans, implementation, commissioning content and audience analysis. This post will therefore begin from January 2023 (depending on successful candidate’s notice period) and end 12 months later, likely in January 2024.

Higher Security Clearance:

All of these posts require the successful candidate to hold basic security clearance. Candidates posted to 2 Marsham Street or Weybridge may be subject to a higher level of clearance because of the security requirements for that location.
