Working as a key collaborator within the marketing team, the Social Media Manager will be responsible for developing and delivering strategies focussed on brand awareness, follower growth, engagement & building communities for Debenhams.com.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about the brand. Creative and agile. Someone who thrives from working under pressure, a forward-thinker, team player and all round communicator.

You will be full of ideas and able to develop creative solutions to key businesses challenges, be a part of relevant cultural conversations, react first to social trends and utilise social listening to understand more about our audience.

On the e-commerce side of things, we drive traffic to our online stores and generate sales through affiliate marketing, paid media, CRM and SEO. Everything goes towards achieving our mission to be a global fashion e-commerce leader.


What you'll be doing

  • Help define the strategy and ongoing optimisation of Debenhams social media across all channels in line with the wider marketing strategy to maximise follower acquisition and customer engagement
  • Underpinned strategy with clear and ambitious KPIs that measured performance and provide insight to inform activity
  • Develop the activity calendar for social media and share with senior stakeholders
  • Champion social media and ensure effective use within the wider marketing and communications strategy
  • Ideate and coordinate creation of social media content in line with campaigns priorities
  • Oversee visual content creation for social media channels including but not limited to dynamic video (reels, infeed and IGTV content) written and graphic content
  • Produce original content such as ‘behind the scenes’ assets and other social first deliverables
  • Work closely with the campaign team to create briefs for the in-house creative team in relations to the generation of social-led assets from existing imagery
  • Liaise with brands and suppliers to source relevant assets for use on social channels
  • Create reactive social content in relations to key events, social media trends, relevant celebrities and influencers that will resonate with our audience
  • Work with the PR and influencer team to create a programme of relevant and on-brand influencer content, this will include static and as well as LIVE and competition content
  • Actively champion new ideas and initiatives and engage with relevant stakeholders across the organisation to deliver these in an impactful manner
  • Maintain knowledge of new and emerging technologies and approaches to social media and review plans and strategy as a result of the changes and trends in the social sphere
  • Measure the performance and impact of social media activity, create weekly and monthly reports and communicate results to the wider business
  • Work closely with creative editorial team to manage TOV across social channels in line with the overarching brand approach
  • Protect the brand image by monitoring conversations across social media channels and implementing appropriate responses and proactive initiatives
  • Identify relevant commercial opportunities to monetise social media channels
  • Instil and grow a strong collaborative approach to social media marketing with relevant stakeholders - particularly trading, E-Commerce and creative teams
  • Support Debenhams’ partnership marketing function, helping to deliver media and campaign opportunities to third party brands and in so doing securing additional revenue
  • Manage and develop a team of 2 Social Media executives, ensure that the team work together effectively and have clear objectives
  • Some (but limited) weekend work is required

More about you

  • Experience within a social media management role with a track record of follower acquisition, and engagement improvement
  • Social media experience within fashion, luxury, beauty or lifestyle brands required
  • Deep understanding of social media landscape, various platforms and trends within social
  • Ability to work at both a strategic and operational level
  • Strong editing skills including reels and video app editing knowledge
  • Good copywriting skills
  • Experience in managing and coaching team members
  • Creative thinker who is passionate about developing new and engage social ideas
  • Collaborative attitude with the ability to develop strong working relationships with key business departments and 3rd party brands
  • Exceptional organisational and time-management abilities
  • Good IT skills including Microsoft Office package
  • Strong business acumen and goal-oriented approach
