The National Rail Communication Centre (NRCC) supports UK Train Operating Companies by communicating the latest travel information via National Rail Enquiries, empowering passengers to make an informed decision about their journey. To support us with this, we're looking for a Social Media Controller to join us at our office in Doncaster.
The NRCC operates 24x7x364 (and a bit), so our customers are able to receive information around the clock, throughout the year.
As an Social Media Controller you’ll provide concise, consistent, and accurate information to customers via our social media channels during times of disruption on the railway network.

The Social Media Controller role consists of:
Answering customer questions, primarily on twitter on the National Rail Enquiries twitter account, about real-time train disruptions, ticket queries, fares information etc.
Sending out information about engineering works and other railway activities
Providing concise, consistent and accurate information to customers during times of disruption on the railway network
Interpreting railway jargon into customer friendly information and advice
Providing support to Train Operating Companies
Add information to the National Rail Enquiries website for large events
Working with the Train Operating Companies to provide up to date station information
Working to a high standard in order to achieve quality and timing targets
Seeking out relevant information provided by Train Operating Companies and Network Rail and retweeting to National Rail Enquiries customers
You are required to work on a 4 week rolling roster, which includes working weekends
This role would be as part of our social media team which operates between 06:00-22:00, 7 days a week.
To be successful in the role of Social Media Controller you must have:
Passion for outstanding customer service
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including accurate typing and strong literacy as you’ll be posting on our website and social media sites and interacting with customers
Ability to adapt your communication style to translate any railway terminology into language that our customers can understand
Feel comfortable with changes in processes and adapt well to these changes
Be a team player and work collaboratively
Microsoft Office experience and knowledge
You do not need any specific experience in this role as full training is provided.
The salary is as follows
Base salary - £20,366 per annum. Your salary will raise to £21,773 per annum once competent in the role.
Shift Allowance - £1,699 per annum
