We have an exciting opportunity for someone to be our new Social Media and Communications Coordinator. This role would lead on content production across a variety of channels; visual content for our social media and digital, copywriting across web, email and print. The successful applicant would be working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure that all our services, events and campaigns are effectively marketed and promoted.
We want students at the University of Manchester to feel engaged with their SU and excited to be part of the membership community. The successful candidate will drive this through creating comprehensive communications plans and engaging content which speaks to and for every student at the University of Manchester. As well as the role itself, working for such a multi-faceted organisation will give the successful candidate an opportunity to develop new skills, learn how a strong union can transform students’ lives as well as positively impact the wider Greater Manchester community.
A typical working day looks like...
This role will be split between desk-based research, planning and administration and physical aspects such as creating content around the University campus and in the wider city. Day to day this might include working on plans for upcoming campaigns, writing briefs for student content creators, researching the latest digital trends and using online analytics to evaluate engagement across our channels. Another key responsibility of this role will be generating primary content; filming, taking photographs and working with the content creation team, then manipulating this into engaging posts for a variety of digital platforms. Was well as filmed content this role will lead on the production of written content, creating and managing production through student copywriters, for a wide range of styles and formats.
This role will work with several teams across the Students’ Union, helping them to develop key messages and ideas into fully fledged campaigns that students will listen to and engage with. The successful candidate will also work closely with University colleagues, garnering their support for SU campaigns, agreeing and delivering content for university channels and developing new opportunities for collaboration. This role will sit within the Marketing and Communications department of the Students’ Union, managed by the Marketing and Communications Manager and working closely with the Senior Marketing Coordinator and the Senior Events Coordinator.
What you'll be doing:
- Develop communication plans to support campaign marketing plans and which drive the department and wider organisation strategies.
- Build relationships and collaborate with university teams and departments, and other stakeholders/influencers.
- Coordinate the production of persuasive and effective communications copy for a variety of audiences and across multiple marketing formats including social media, e-mail, print and web content.
- Coordinate the production of digital content for and day-to-day management of the Students’ Union’s social media platforms, including creating a content calendar aligning with campaign plans.
- Coordinate recruitment and management of Student Staff.
- Coach, train and support union staff, student officers and students on social media and content, including creating how-to and best practice guides and delivering training.
- Monitor and listen to our audiences, facilitate online conversations, and respond to queries.
- Measure, monitor and evaluate the Students’ Union’s marketing and communications plans, campaigns, and activity, providing regular reports and commentary
