Our large department (approximately 100 staff covering a population of approx 540,000) provides a wide range of services for Grampian Region and beyond, and includes a comprehensive range of bacteriology and virology diagnostic techniques.
Applications are invited for the above post from HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientists with extensive post registration experience in Medical Microbiology.
Experience of bacteriology at a specialist level is essential. You will hold an Honours B.Sc and preferably higher degree (M.Sc), IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma or have equivalent experience and ideally hold a managerial and/ or Quality Management qualification.
The post holder will act as a Biomedical Scientist 3 with major responsibility for the development of environmental microbiology testing within the Department of Microbiology. This may include responsibility for departmental compliance with the standards contained in ISO 17025 as assessed by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).
The successful applicant must be motivated and enthusiastic with good leadership qualities and must be able to demonstrate current continuing professional development.
You will be expected to participate in an out of hours rota.
You will have good organisational and practical abilities supported by scientific knowledge, well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working.
The department is registered by IBMS as a training laboratory and is fully compliant with the standards of ISO 15189 and accredited by UKAS .
