Company information and introduction:

English Holiday Cruises are based in Gloucester, UK and operate the four-star Edward Elgar Hotel boat. Our cruises take just 22 passengers on trips of up to six nights long on the River Severn and Gloucester to Sharpness Ship Canal. We are seasonal and operate from April to October, based at our brand-new home mooring and office facility near Gloucester's Historic docks. Our onboard crew of five and shoreside staff deliver cruise holidays in England that receive excellent reviews and lots of repeat business.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Oversee the vessel is kept to our standards of safety.
  • Follow the onboard safety management system and ensure the crew comply with the system.
  • Help with the training of crew members.
  • Navigate the vessel on the River Severn and Gloucester to Sharpness Ship canal.
  • Manoeuvres through locks and bridges.
  • Safe mooring of the vessel as designated mooring points.
  • Give safety briefings to passengers prior to all departures.
  • Supervise passenger counting system.
  • Carry out daily, weekly and intermittent logged checks of the vessel.
  • Supervise the fuelling of the vessel.
  • Report any maintenance issues or defects.
  • Carry out minor maintenance tasks on ship equipment and internal fixtures and fittings.
  • Provide daily briefings to passengers on their holiday itinerary and points of interest.
  • Regular contact and conversation with passengers.
  • Oversee other crew members fulfil their duties.
  • Carry out crew safety drills as required.
  • Communicate regularly with our shoreside office as well as local organisations such as the Canal and River Trust.
  • Additional duties as reasonably required.
  • Available to live in during the cruising season from April to October.
  • Winter maintenance and caretaking duties.

Key Skills and Competencies:

Essential:

  • Boat Master licences Tier 2 Level 1.
  • Availability for a live-in role.
  • Current First Aid training.
  • Medical certificate ML5 or ENG1.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the hospitality industry.
  • Training or experience in the maintenance of marine diesel engines.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £30,940.00 per year
