Job summary
There is an opportunity to work at RAF Marham as part of the Maintenance Support Squadron (MSS) within Ground Engineering Flight (GEF) who are looking for a proactive and friendly addition to the carpentry team. You will ensure that tasks undertaken within the Carpenters Shop are in accordance with the relevant orders, instructions or regulations as laid down by the MOD, Civil Service, task related Military Publications or local management.
This post is part-time and is offered at 22.5 hrs (3 days a week).
Job description
Responsibilities include:
- Manufacture and repair Station support equipment in accordance with (IAW) drawings/patterns/repair schemes.
- Planning, scheduling and co-ordinating work operations.
- Monitoring and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety Instructions.
- Undergo any training that is deemed necessary.
- Undertake additional duties pertinent to their role IAW orders and instructions detailed in the MSS Management Book.
- Working overtime, although not normally required, as and when necessary.
- Ensuring that all personal protective equipment and respiratory protective equipment that is required for any task is in a serviceable condition and used IAW JSP 375.
- Bay husbandry, assisting with the cleaning and preparations for inspections and visits.
Person specification
This is a small team and so the successful candidate must be a great team player.
Essential:
- City & Guilds 2 or 3, NVQ equivalent in Carpentry or time served trades person.
To be achieved within 6 months of starting:
- Human Factors – with 2 yearly refreshers.
- Basic Fire Awareness – MOD Mandate with annual refresher.
- Display Screen Equipment - MOD Mandate with 2 yearly refreshers.
- Equality and Diversity Essentials - MOD Mandate with 3 yearly refreshers.
- Unconscious Bias - MOD Mandate with 3 yearly refreshers.
- Health & Safety - MOD Mandate with refresher as determined by Sqn Management.
- General Security Threat Brief - MOD Mandate with annual refresher.
- Defence Information Management Passport - MOD Mandate with 3 yearly refreshers.
- Pedestrian Operated Forklift Truck.
Desirable:
- IT: MS Office Suite with emphasis on MS Word, MS Excel, SharePoint.
- Working knowledge of STARS.

The post does not offer relocation expenses.

Please note, you will also be asked to demonstrate a practical carpentry task, so come dressed appropriately. Overalls (ideal) and safety footwear (mandatory). Any further PPE will be supplied where necessary.
