Team overview
Based at Leeds Dock, Digital Technology look after the digital experiences for over 12 million Sky customers. You will be joining a diverse team where the focus is on empowering development teams to help build scalable, maintainable applications with security and reliability built in.
What you'll do
- Drive technology and system engineering practices into the department with passion and enthusiasm and empower development teams by bringing expertise and knowledge to help clear issues or blockers they are experiencing
- Work on ways to automate and improve software deployments and delivery pipelines whilst working with all areas of Digital Technology to maintain and improve our digital solutions
- Work within a growing team of Site Reliability Engineers using a wide range of technologies in On-Premise and Cloud data centres
- Lead the team in architecting, building, monitoring, and maintaining the infrastructure to support delivery of Sky Digital journeys
- Mentor other members of the team, sharing your knowledge and experience to help them grow
What you'll bring
- Great knowledge of dev-ops/SRE practices and a methodical approach when investigating production issues and strong experience in building solutions to empower development teams
- Being an advocate for automation of manual processes wherever you find them with an ability to see past the symptoms, find the underlying issues and have strong communication skills to be able to connect with all levels within the department
- Achieve outcomes through collaboration, build trust with people and teams and be seen as the approachable expert
- Foster relationships between the SRE team and the wider department
- The ability to switch contexts frequently in order to help other members of the team or to react to issues raised by the department
Desirable experience:
- In depth knowledge of at least one development language (Javascript/Typescript is preferred, but not essential)
- Experience in deploying resources to Cloud platforms such as GCP and AWS
- Experience in configuring containers and orchestration (predominantly Docker) would be useful
- Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, or Python
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform, Ansible, Puppet
