Job Role: Shop Floor Assistant
Position Summary: The Fresh Produce/stock worker plays a crucial role in ensuring the availability of high-quality fresh produce, maintaining a visually appealing display, and contributing to the overall cleanliness and organization of the supermarket. This position involves stocking, merchandising, cleaning, and providing exceptional customer service to enhance the shopping experience.
Responsibilities:
Stocking and Inventory Management:Receive, inspect, and properly store incoming fresh produce and stock shipments, ensuring accurate inventory management.
Monitor stock levels, rotate products, and restock shelves to ensure an abundant and visually appealing display of fresh produce.
Coordinate with the store's procurement team to ensure an adequate supply of fresh produce and stock, minimizing wastage and ensuring freshness.
Merchandising and Display Presentation:Create attractive and visually appealing displays of fresh produce, ensuring proper product placement, signage, and pricing.
Arrange produce to highlight freshness, quality, and variety, following merchandising guidelines and seasonal themes.
Regularly check and remove any damaged or expired products to maintain a fresh and appealing display.
Cleaning and Maintenance:Ensure cleanliness and sanitation of the fresh produce area, including stock display shelves, bins, and refrigerated sections.
Regularly clean and sanitize equipment, sweep and mop floors, toilets and kitchen.
Monitor and maintain proper temperature and humidity levels in the produce section to preserve the quality and freshness of the products.
Customer Service:Provide exceptional customer service by assisting customers with their proucts, answering questions, and offering product knowledge.
Recommend recipes or cooking methods for various produce items and address any concerns or inquiries promptly and courteously.
Offer assistance in bagging and weighing produce items, maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude at all times.
Quality Control:Inspect fresh produce for quality, ensuring that only the highest-quality items are displayed for sale. Check sell by dates for dry/frozen/dairy products. Promptly remove any damaged, spoiled, or overripe produce from the shelves to maintain high standards and minimize waste.
Monitor freshness dates and rotate stock accordingly, following the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle.
Team Collaboration:Collaborate with other departments, such as the supervisor, cashiers, and management, to ensure smooth operations and efficient teamwork.
Communicate with the produce department manager or supervisor regarding inventory needs, product feedback, and any issues or concerns.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a supermarket or grocery store environment, is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of different types of fresh produce, ethnic food produce, including quality indicators, proper handling, and storage requirements.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Physical stamina and the ability to lift and carry heavy produce items.
- Flexibility to work in various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.

Part-time hours: 16-38 per week
Salary: £7.66-£11.50 per hour

- Day shift
- Every weekend
- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:
- Nottingham: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
Education:
- GCSE or equivalent (preferred)
Experience:
- Retail sales: 1 year (preferred)
- customer service: 1 year (preferred)
Licence/Certification:
- Driving Licence (preferred)
