Shift Supervisor (with Administrative Duties)
Hours: Part Time (20 Hours), Fixed Shift Sunday 5-10, with other shifts flexible around service need.
Contract: Permanent
Salary: £25,000 per annum pro rata
Salary Period: Yearly

My Black Dog is a peer-to-peer mental health charity. Our volunteers are real people, with real experiences, talking to service users in real time. We are a listening ear and aim to emphasise and connect with people and their experiences of mental health.
The shift supervisor role supports the running of the volunteer shifts by monitoring chats, escalating concerns and providing feedback and support to our volunteers. The role is varied and requires the successful applicant to be able to handle a number of situations.
The successful candidate will have at least three months administrative experience and will be able to demonstrate experience working with mental health.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Being the first point of call for the volunteers
- Monitoring the volunteer chats
- Flagging difficult chats and escalating where necessary.
- Assisting with general service administration including recruitment checks, volunteer on-boarding, event preparation and day to day operations.
- Assisting with My Black Dog record keeping and data management.
- Supporting the volunteer group during the shifts
- Supporting the Volunteer Buddy Scheme
- Support the Volunteering Manager with the on-boarding of new volunteers, providing feedback and support as necessary.
- Support with adapting training and assisting in the delivery of volunteer and buddy training when applicable
- Providing a shift handover and ensuring offline messages are responded to in a timely manner
- Highlight any positive/negative feedback
- IMPORTANT: Contacting local authorities as needed in times of Emergency
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following skills:
- Calm manner and able to work with a number of different volunteers.
- Time management skills and prioritise number of volunteer chats.
- Ability to escalate concerns as necessary.
- Work with a number of external services, including emergency services if emergency escalation is required.
- Provide succinct handover following shift to inform management of priorities and escalations.
- Excellent IT skills, utilising Microsoft Office and OneDrive as necessary.
- At least three months administrative experience.
- Experiencing working with mental health.
- Ability to follow and work to My Black Dog policies and procedures.
