SHEQ Manager
(Safety, Health, Environment and Quality)
The role:
- Reporting to our Head of Group Operations, your role is to lead the health and safety, environment, and quality function across all our sites.
- You will be responsible for ensuring all our colleagues follow health and safety procedures within the workplace. You will undertake audits and inspections, develop operating procedures, prepare reports and statistics, and deliver presentations to stakeholders.
Key responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development and implementation of the short and long-term strategies in working towards a zero accident, zero incident, safe place of work.
- Prepare and implement policies and procedures which help reduce risk and support a positive HS&E culture.
- Evaluate, develop, and execute health and safety practices and procedures plans in the workplace to assess risk and in accordance with legal guidelines.
- Support, coach, and mentor the operational teams and provide competent HSEQ advice. Where necessary lead accident and incident investigations, to discover root causes.
- Create and provide analysis and advice to Operational teams on effective preventative measures to reduce risk.
- Keep abreast of any changes or updates to relevant legislation, codes of practice and industry standards and advise stakeholders and communicate to the wider teams, where necessary
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures.
- Risk assessments requirements are regularly reviewed, and the implementation of any action required is monitored and colleagues are regularly updated with new information.
- Hold regular meetings where health and safety issues can be discussed, progress made against objectives and plans monitored and actions decided.
- Conduct training and presentations for health, safety, environment and quality matters and accident prevention.
- Details of accidents, dangerous occurrences or diseases that are notifiable are reported to the Enforcing Authorities
- Contact with external organisations such as the emergency services is co-ordinated.
- The schedule of statutory examinations of equipment is maintained and managers are made aware of impending examinations.
- Carry out management system audits and inspections and manage a programme of corrective/preventative actions for continuous improvement to ensure the highest standards in technical competence and safe working practices are met.
- Collation and analysis of SHEQ information and statistics.
- To support with coordination and completion of ISO9001 / ISO14001 / ISO45001 audits and support operational teams with any external audits.
- Building working relationships with governing bodies and local authorities
About you:
- Proven experience working in a SHEQ role and a strong knowledge of health and safety / environment legislation.
- Experience of managing a team of at least one employee.
- A successful track record of working with auditors.
- Ability to build relationships and influence people at all levels, to drive continuous improvements and change through the organisation.
- Team focused, inclusive, collaborative, tactful and diplomatic when dealing with our colleagues, always treating them with respect.
- Work well under pressure.
- Excellent organisational and motivational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, have a personable nature with effective and clear communication skills.
- Outstanding attention to detail and the ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies.
- Problem solver – can apply a range of analytical techniques to understand complex information issues, considers a range of options and their effects.
- NEBOSH National Diploma/NVQ 4 or minimum
- A recognised safety and environmental qualification (diploma level or equivalent) and should hold or beworking towards an auditor’s qualification for ISO.
